Utah Lake State Park Dredging

Yes, we can confirm that the dredging at the Utah Lake State Park has been postponed until AFTER Labor Day.  The contractors had some questions about the process of dredging that needed additional research to supply answers. Also, the Division Director of State Parks and Recreation recommended delaying the project due to the expected high water levels at Utah Lake, which could cause issues for emptying the marina of water in order to be dredged. We are excited that everyone will have great access this summer, which should make for an amazing year as the deep snow pack comes out of the mountains during spring runoff. We are already close to 3.5 feet up from where we bottomed out last summer. Updates on the dredging will follow as we receive them.

Carp Removal Update 2017

This winter was unproductive, due to the fluctuating ice conditions. However, since mid-February until now, the fisherman have removed over 360,000 pounds already! That brings the total removed since the start in 2010 to almost 25,000,000 pounds! That is the equivalent weight of 100 blue whales!

HCR 26

House Concurrent Resolution 26 (H.C.R. 26) was a resolution sponsored by Representative Mike McKell and Senator Deidre Henderson, both of whom are Governing Board members of the Utah Lake Commission. The resolution was officially adopted after passing 74-1 in the House and 28-0 in the Senate. We are hopeful for the future as the resolution "encourage[s] pursuit of all reasonably available solutions to accelerate comprehensive and lasting restoration of Utah Lake."

Thanks Representative McKell and Senator Henderson!

Spring Field Trips for 4th Graders

The 4th Grade Spring Field Trips will officially now be held at the Utah Lake State Park! The dates are April 25-26, and May 2-3. We expect to host around 48 classes, which could total around 1,300 students! We are super excited for this opportunity. We are still looking for a few volunteer presenters, so please email us at if you would like more information about presenting. Topics like history of Utah Lake, native fish of Utah Lake, fossils found near Utah Lake, and similar are what we are looking for.

Youth Paddle Board Program this Summer!

The Utah Lake Commission plans to launch a youth paddle board camp this summer! Working with Utah Paddle Boards, this camp would offer youth the opportunity to learn basic paddle boarding skills, water safety, how to take care of the environment, and more! Stay tuned to our newsletter and social media for updates!

Vineyard Lakeshore Cleanup

The Utah Lake Commission has partnered with Vineyard City for the Vineyard Lakeshore Cleanup! This cleanup event will be held on Earth Day, April 22. They are looking for individuals and groups to sign up. This project aims to clean up the shoreline along the whole length of Vineyard, and will help beautify the area for residents and visitors alike. 2017 Phragmites Treatment

We are dedicated to getting rid of the phragmites around Utah Lake! Our plan to treat 900+ acres near Provo Bay and Goshen Bay and seed ~300 acres previously treated with native vegetation to replace the phragmites was ranked first for priority for funding for the Central Utah region in the legislative session. Once the funding is awarded, treatment will be completed later this year.
