More or less important decisions need to be made every day and sometimes the results of these calls are only seen years down the track. The main goal for my decisions is always to guarantee the sustainability of our business so we all have a workplace to go to in years to come and a regular decent income to look after our loved ones. To achieve this, daily business needs to function as smoothly as possible (not always easy..) – rates charged out need to be increased (difficult to achieve) and increases in running costs kept at bay where possible (almost impossible).
When the business produces a profit at the end of the year (again, not easy), it allows us to replace assets (that’s diggers, trucks, loaders, etc), increase wages, and build up reserves for years to come when things don’t work out how they were planned.
Some of our trucks have to date done more than 4 Million km which equates to a travel distance of 100 times around our planet Earth. Talk to any of our drivers and they will tell you they’d love to get a new truck to drive and I can’t blame them. It’s thanks to the dedication of our two workshop teams that our current fleet of trucks is still going as well as they do but we all agree that this cannot go on forever.
Getting back to making business plans ahead of time; the decision to start working on a replacement plan for our wheel and track fleet has been made (watch this space!). Let’s all hope it’s the right decision.
