Join the Tennyson Dunes Group for a fun filled and educational day.

Each year our Open Day attracts hundreds of people, with expert speakers guiding visitors through the dunes.  Along with tours, experience the fair-like atmosphere with interactive displays, live native animals for children to interact with, stalls from a range of environmental groups, Tennyson-inspired souvenirs and a BBQ by the Kiwanis.

Our expert tours have limited numbers so book now to secure a place. The tours include:
- Native Foods of the Coast with Neville Bonney
- Natural History of the Dunes with Dr Victor Gostin
- Climate Change and Coastal Erosion with Dr Murray Townsend
- Coastal Dune Ecology with Dr Tim Milne
- In Search of Dragons with Peter Matejcic
- Children's Coastal Discovery with the Marine Discovery Centre
- Living Shorelines with Catherine McMahon

New Children's Activities

Children are the future custodians of the coastal environment so it's vital we let them play and experience nature.

Our new Children's Coastal Discovery Tour is a great opportunity for them to interact with the dunes guided by scientists from the Marine Discovery Centre.

Kids will uncover nature's hidden treasures on the beach and learn to be a dune detective. There will also be interactive displays in the marquee during lunch.

Plant Identification Booklet Almost Sold Out!

Last year we launched "Tennyson Dunes: too good to lose", our plant identification booklet. The publication was well received and we still have a few dozen left for sale, which will again be available at this year's Open Day.

This pocket field guide has information on over 50 of the most common and significant native plants and weeds in the dunes, accompanied by amazing photos from local photographer, Kym Murphy.

Along with helping to identify plants, the guide shows were plants are located, when they flower and seed, the importance of plants for native wildlife and other interesting facts.

Remaining books are priced at $12. The funds raised will help the Tennyson Dunes Group in our vital work.  Strictly cash sales only.

Tennyson Dunes Management Plan

Natural Resources Adelaide and Mt Lofty Ranges (NRM) have recently begun the development of a management plan for the Tennyson Dunes Conservation Reserve.  The Tennyson Dunes Group has been working together with Kaurna representatives, the City of Charles Sturt and the NRM to develop an over-arching plan that will identify management priorities for successful restoration of dune ecology.

It will identify a vision and goals for the reserve, the values we aim to protect, the threats and actions to overcome them.  A framework has been developed outlining these key aspects. It will soon be expanded into a complete and educational document that will guide our threatened species recovery, weeding and revegetation works, and educational and interpretive activities.

Watch this space for more important developments as the management plan takes shape.
