Dear Neighbor,

On Memorial Day, we came together as a community to honor, commemorate and remember the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. For the first time in several years, we held a Memorial Day Parade, that would not have been possible without the support of the East Hartford Veterans Commission, our community, local volunteers, incredible sponsors and vendors who put tremendous efforts into making the event a huge success. Thank you to all for making this event a reality in memory and celebration of our veterans.

License Your Dog(s) in June

By state statute, all dogs in Connecticut six (6) months or older must be licensed each year during the month of June in the town where they reside. The license is valid from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023. The fee for the license is $8 for dogs that are neutered/spayed, or $19 for dogs that are not neutered/spayed. A current rabies certificate is required for all dogs and a certificate of neuter/spay is required for dogs that will be licensed for the first time, or if recently neutered/spayed and therefore not yet on file with the Town Clerk’s office.

Main Street Closure Replacement

The Town of East Hartford is conducting the Main Street Closure Structure Replacement project. Construction is anticipated to be completed in August. Work is being done during daytime hours and traffic is limited to one lane north-bound and one lane south-bound. Lanes will shift to one side of the opening and then flip when work needs to move to the other side of the structure. If possible, please avoid the area during construction. Be sure to slow down around the work zone and watch for changes in traffic patterns.

East Coast Greenway Closure

The East Coast Greenway Multi-Use Trail at Willow Street will be closed from May 31, 2022, to December 1, 2022. The temporary closure of the multi-use trail at Willow Street is necessary as part of the safety and operational improvements on Route 2. The trail is being detoured to facilitate the reconstruction of the Willow Street bridge.

Town Hall to Close in the Fall

The Town Hall will be undergoing much needed structural renovations in the fall of 2022. During renovations, the Town Hall is expected to be temporarily closed for 12 months. The exact date of our closure and additional information on our temporary location at the East Hartford Cultural Community Center (CCC) will be shared later this summer.

Connecticut Trails Day

Celebrate Connecticut Trails Day on Saturday, June 4 from 10:00 a.m. to noon by joining a self-guided walk/hike and trail maintenance starting at Martin Park entrance of the Hockanum Linear Trail. Local businesses, organizations, scout groups, sports teams and families are encouraged to participate. All trail maintenance supplies and equipment will be provided.

Ask the Mayor

In an effort to cultivate efficient and effective communication within our community, Mayor Mike continues to accept East Hartford-related questions from the community as part of his “Ask the Mayor.” The questions are accepted weekly, Monday through Friday and answered in a video message on Wednesdays. Anne Pasquale’s Living History

Saturday, June 4, 1-2 PM

Inspired by her own grandmother’s tales, Anne Pasquale created a program based on the stories of America's female immigrants from many cultures. Anne invites you to join her, accompanied by the very talented musician/actor Keith Herron, as she dons the personas, sings the songs, tells the stories of many unsung heroines from every point of Liberty’s crown, and explores the cultural diversity and common heritage that makes us all one. This program celebrating the contributions of immigrants is presented with funding support from the East Hartford Town Council via the East Hartford Commission on Culture and Fine Arts.

2022 Summer Reading

Summer reading is for everyone! The East Hartford Public Library has summer reading incentive programs with prizes for adults, teens, school-aged children and preschoolers. Registration begins on Thursday, June 9, when participants can start logging their reading into our mobile-friendly online system. The library summer reading program also counts towards the Governor’s Summer Reading challenge, a project of the Connecticut State Library and the CT Department of Education.

Creatively capture your summer with a mixed-media art journal! Art journaling is the perfect outlet to document your summer. This event is perfect for tweens, teens, and adults alike. We are excited to see you there. Please register for this event.

Summer Youth Dance Festival

Saturday, June 25, 10:30 - 11:30 AM

Meet us outside on the library lawn (weather-permitting) and learn more about musical theater dancing. Get your body moving! Dance teacher Matthew Guerrera will guide participants in basic musical theater skills and teach choreography for a musical theater number. Bring a water bottle and wear clothes you can move in! This free program is co-sponsored by the East Hartford Summer Youth Festival and East Hartford Public Library. Nelson Bello Latin Jazz Quintet

Join us for an afternoon of Latin Jazz with conguero and East Hartford resident Nelson Bello and his Latin Jazz Quintet. Bello studied at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, the Hartford Conservatory and under Jackie McLean at The Artists Collective. Be sure to bring a chair for our lawn, however you might not sit down, because you'll be on your feet dancing to the hot Latin rhythms! This program celebrating the contributions of immigrants is presented with funding support from the East Hartford Town Town Council via the East Hartford Commission on Culture and Fine Arts.

Help us fight the blight. Report any issues of concern through “My East Hartford” – the town’s customer relationship management platform for a prompt and timely resolution.

Mortgage Programs

• TD Home Access Mortgage offers borrowers greater flexibility and a $5,000 lender credit for down payment on home purchases. TD Home Access Mortgage provides prospective buyers with an affordable mortgage option, including a $5,000 lender credit which does not require repayment, that borrowers can use for closing costs or toward a down payment on a home purchase. • Liberty Bank offers its “Good Neighbor Plus” program to most of East Hartford, determined by low and moderate income census tracts. The program provides $2,500 towards closing costs, pays for private mortgage insurance, and discounts the mortgage rate by 0.5%. It allows for a down payment of as little as 3%. The census tracts in town that do not qualify, located in the northeast and southeast sections of town, still qualify for the original Good Neighbor program, which provides $300 instead of $2,500 towards closing costs and still all of the other benefits. Join the Bike Rodeo!

Join the East Hartford Police Department for a fun and educational Bike Rodeo. Children K-5th Grade are welcome along with parents. This event will be hosted at Crossroads Community Cathedral parking lot on June 11th from 10 AM-1PM. Make sure to bring your bike, helmet, water bottle, sunscreen and sneakers. Take this opportunity to learn bike safety skills and engage in fun challenging bike activities!

Register for Swim Lessons with Parks & Rec

Swim lesson registration for residents begins on June 1st at 9am and for non-residents June 6th at 9am. Registration for swim lessons is accepted online at www.ehparks.org.

SMALL BUSINESS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

East Hartford has launched a COVID-19 Small Business Assistance Program to help eligible East Hartford businesses respond to and recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. This program will provide financial grants, reimbursements, or in-kind services for specific purposes related to counteracting the adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

You must be:

• Located in East Hartford or have an intent to relocate to East Hartford

• Currently in operation and have been in operation since January 1, 2019

• In “good standing with the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services

Priority will be given to certified minority/women-owned business enterprises, certified small business enterprises and veteran-owned businesses.
