...weekly bulletin...

January 26, 2023
Dear <<First Name>>,

VRCORE

Our Gr. 9 students had the opportunity to go to VRCore last Friday for their Action Day. They had a ton of fun playing Virtual Reality games together in groups of four. The games they had to choose from were rock climbing, defending a castle from monsters and surviving a zombie apocalypse.

I'd like to recognize the students at Currie Campus for demonstrating many of the 5R's this week - being Responsible and Resourceful in preparing for exam week, and demonstrating Resilience during the exams. We are proud of you for all your efforts!!

Semester 2 begins next week. In the High School, students who are taking semestered courses will start their new courses and Friday CTS options will change with students taking Art, Media Arts, STEM, or Outdoor Education. As a reminder, the new Currie Campus timetable is now in effect and will resume next week for the remainder of the school year.

Grade 8A - Mr. Masse
Grade 8B - Mr. Brodeur
Grade 9 - Mr. Moynaugh
Grade 10 - Ms. McPeake
Grade 11 - Mr. Redick
Grade 12 - Ms. Zhang
Girls School - Ms. Works

Coming up at Currie Campus, the Calgary Police Department will be giving our students a presentation on topics such as hate, discrimination, and bias. As our boys and girls navigate the very real challenges of social media, peer dynamics and friendships, this will be an excellent opportunity for them to engage with these topics.

Our Girls School started exam week by practicing some calm and confidence through Taekwondo. They attended a 2-hour workshop at MasterRim Taekwondo and came back to school feeling refreshed and energized.

Physical Education

In Gr. 7 PE class we had a full court basket scored during a kickball type game!  It was scored by Gavin this week during our game of Chaos!  The game was energetic and the students were focused. This earned the time honoured tradition of buying the goal scorer a pizza!

Athletics

Basketball

Our Gr. 9 Boys Basketball team continued their season with two games this week.  They remained undefeated after Tuesday's win over Mountain View and it was great to see the support of a few Gr. 7 and 8 students!

The Gr. 9 team will be playing the Calgary Jewish School at the time this newsletter goes to press.  Good Luck.

Curling

Our Curling team hit the ice in our second week and after some great shot making, the men's team earned a 2-2 draw while the open team had a great comeback and put the pressure on with 5 rocks in the house, forcing their opponents to draw to the button for the win!

HIGH Fitness Exercise Class

Hello NP families!

I am grateful to take this opportunity to introduce myself to our school communities. My name is Allison Ward and our family has been part of the NP family now for 6 years. I teach a cardio based fitness class called HIGH Fitness. Our class runs on Friday mornings over in the Glenbrook Plaza at Prestige Dance at 9:30am. I have been teaching this format for almost 7 years with an amazing partner and we would love to extend an invitation to try out our class. The class consists of easy to follow moves in all cardio, lower body, core and upper body tracks. The music is amazing, the format can be modified to any fitness level and above all else our community is so welcoming and we always have a blast sweating it out every week!! Space is limited so if you would like to join us please reach out at allieward76@gmail.com or Instagram @alliewrd. Looking forward to seeing some new faces and meeting some of our NP parents!
