...weekly bulletin...

February 16, 2023
Dear <<First Name>>,

A Canadian Kind of Day

The weather was spectacular on Friday when the Gr. 5/6, 6, 8 & 9 classes went to Arbour Lake to go ice fishing for their Action Day. Craig from the Arbour Lake Community Association pre-drilled twelve ice fishing holes and then Jonathan drilled some more, right in front of the boys with an auger, which they found fascinating. Four fish were caught and released. In true Canadiana fashion, some of the boys skated or played hockey and Mrs. Bjornson brought TimBits. We were very impressed with how the boys from different age ranges worked so well together and we received a compliment from a community member on how Respectful and Responsible the boys were being.

Yesterday we sent home our IDPs and IPPs with the boys. Please review and let the Mentor Teachers know if you have any questions. There is no need to return the document.

Last week Midterm Exam Mark Statements went home with the students. Hopefully this generated some discussion at home regarding the process of preparing for and writing exams.

February Progress Reports will be coming home on Monday, February 27. These three documents ought to provide some good insight as to how your student is doing academically, behaviourally and emotionally. We trust that there will be a lot to celebrate at the upcoming Checkpoint meetings scheduled for the first two days of March.

We are excited to have the team from I Got Mind in the building Tuesday and Wednesday next week to work directly with our students around Habits. We will focus on identifying and eliminating any negative habits, as well as how to build more positive habits.

Wednesday, February 22 we will be participating in Pink Shirt (Anti-Bullying) Day. We will forgo our traditional formal day and encourage all the boys to wear pink. Our grade 3 - 6 Boys School and all Girls School students will also be attending the Calgary Hitmen (Be Brave) Game in recognition of Pink Shirt Day.

We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend and has the opportunity to take time to be with family!

North Point Curling - City Championship

Yesterday was another playoff night for our Sr. High Curling teams. Both our Open Team and our Men's Team were victorious last night so our Open Team will advance to the consolation semi final, and our Men's Team will be playing for a GOLD MEDAL and City Championship. The teamwork, camaraderie, and sportsmanship was unfailing by both teams. The shot making was on point during an amazing semi-final against Notre Dame High School. Good Luck in the finals.

Gr. 7 Basketball - Championship Match

The Gr. 7 Boys basketball season wrapped up this week with a Wednesday night final! The atmosphere was electric and the teams put on an amazing show of talent and teamwork.  They pushed their opponents to the limit and the responsible ball management and relentless play had our Navigators up by 4 points late in the 4th quarter. While they fought until the end they were ultimately defeated due to some foul trouble.  They put on an amazing and entertaining final and we are proud of the relentless efforts of this silver medal team.

The Grade 8 Basketball team will begin their playoffs next week, the Sr High Basketball team will wind up their season on Feb 24, 25 with a tournament, and the Grade 9 team will start playoffs the week of Feb 27th.
