Dear <<First Name>>,

North Point Schools Acquires Land for Future School Campus

We are thrilled to announce that we have successfully acquired an incredible piece of land for the future site of North Point Schools. Formerly known as the ‘Whitaker Lands’, these stunning 74 acres include 24 acres of forest, creeks and a small portion of the Elbow River.

The land is located in Springbank where 101st meets highway 8.  It is just off of Stoney Trail (once completed) so it should be easy commuting for most, once the day comes.

Although we have dreams of building a state of the art school facility and campus that can accommodate greenhouses and gardens, extensive athletic facilities, an outdoor education centre and an art studio, we are still a ways from shovels in the ground. For the time being, North Point Schools will continue to operate out of both the Richmond and Currie campuses. We have secure leases in place and a plan to manage our growth in the years to come. In the meantime, this property gives us a place to explore, hike, run and learn.

We look forward to working closely with our staff, students, parents and community members as we strive to realize this dream.

You can access the full press release here.

Girls School

International Women's Day was last week on March 8. I'd like to take an opportunity to celebrate the achievements, both big and small, that our girls have made this school year. I'm proud to say we celebrate inclusivity and diversity in our classrooms each and everyday and we are honored to have this group of girls be part of our school.

Play-in-a-day

March 17

This St. Patrick’s Day, North Point students in grades 7-12 will get to see how the professionals bring stories to life on stage in just one hour! That’s right–from the page to the stage in under 60 minutes! Theatre educator Aliza Sarian will introduce students to the various roles in a theatre process from directors and actors to designers and stage managers. This workshop will be the first step towards North Point’s new After School Theatre Club – get students excited about what’s possible.

NEW After School Theatre Club

Following the success of last year’s Theatre Lunch Club’s production of 5 Ways to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse, and building on the Play-in-a-day workshop, we are exploring North Point’s new After School Theatre Club. Use the QR codes or links below for a survey to help us gauge students' interest in a Theatre Club for grades 7-12 this spring at the Currie Campus.

Passion Project Presentations

March 20-21

Passion Projects are an opportunity for students to research a topic, any topic, that they are passionate about. They will then present their research in a showcase set up at each campus.Currie students will present on Monday morning and Richmond students will present on Tuesday afternoon 1:00-2:00pm (PLEASE NOTE THE DAY CHANGES). Parents and family are welcome to come check it out. We are looking forward to seeing what our students are passionate about!

Ski Day

March 24

Our annual Ski Trip will take place on March 24th. We will be heading to Nakiska for the day with any student who has registered from Gr. K-12. As a reminder there will be NO alternative activities on this date as we will require all teachers to supervise at the Ski Hill. If your child will not be attending they are asked to stay home on this date.

Spring Break!

Young Entrepreuner's Busines Fair

Save the Date: Coming Sunday, June 4th

The Young Entrepreneurs Business Fair is a real-life marketplace where North Point students exhibit and sell products or services to potential customers. The money generated from sales belongs to them.

Student Highlight

Gr, 9 student, Lennon G., competed in the Teen Solo section of the 26th Annual Calgary APTA Festival. We want to celebrate this accomplishment with Lennon! A video of his performance is linked here!

Welcome Student Teachers

Our three University of Calgary student teachers have arrived for their four-week practicum. Cory Saavedra is working with Lance in Phys. Ed., Hung Nguyen has joined Mr. Kostecki's classes and Justin Royer is working with Mr. Hirtle. We are excited to welcome them and show them what North Point School for Boys is all about.

Outdoor Ed heads to Muay Thai

Thank you to Mr. Masse and Ms. Bjornson for taking their OE classes to Muay Thai to experience this combat sport in a safe and fun environment. A great time was had by all!

Poet Workshop

The Gr. 10-12 students had the chance to meet poet, Adetola Adedipe. She came into the high school for a presentation, performance, and workshop. Adetola spoke about her journey as an artist & poet and explored the idea of self-expression. The students got to hear her perform her spoken word poems, as well as write their own pieces with her coaching.

eSports Game

Our eSports team competes in the playvs school eSports league. They had a MarioKart competition against a team in Utah this past week. Although the competition was intense, they didn’t pull out a win this time. Looks like they still had a great time!

Physical Education

On the Richmond campus this week we enjoyed taking flight with some shuttles as we brushed up on our badminton skills in a "striking" unit.  Students have been Resourceful and Respectful throughout sharing ideas, trying new skills, and even having discussions and modifying rules to explore game play and keep things fun and interesting!

We have also extended the experience to intramural badminton as a new noon hour activity for G5 5-7 students at the Richmond campus.

This past Monday, we had our first ever in class floor hockey tournament at Visions Centre with all of the Gr. 7 and 8 students as part of their physical education program! This sets up well for the CISAA Championship Tournament which is next week.
