A Message from YLC Board President and YLC Executive DIrector

During the busiest times, we recognize the importance of celebrating the accomplishments of the year's first half.

The first six months of 2022 were filled with positive impacts on our members and community. The return of YLC Wednesday at the Square saw roughly 40,000 attendees enjoy nine weeks of concerts and support over 30 local and small businesses. YLC paid local musicians over $40,000, and our food and art vendors earned over $125,000.

In addition to WATS, YLC launched its Clean. Safe. Beautiful. initiative. This initiative hosts speakers, events, and volunteer opportunities to ensure New Orleans remains a place we are proud to call home.

In support of our Clean. Safe. Beautiful. initiative, YLC joined the NOLA Coalition, partnered with the NOPD to support officer retention efforts, and partnered with YEP to support their expansion into New Orleans East. This is in addition to hosting Leadership Luncheons on the same topic.

YLC’s core projects also thrived with the continued work of YLC Fleurish and YLC Assists.

As we move into the second half of the year, our members remain hungry to leave their mark. This fall, YLC is kicking off another year of PowerTies, sponsored by Shell, and its Leadership Development Series, sponsored by Laitram.

Lastly, YLC is offering new opportunities to its members to accelerate their leadership and become change agents. YLC is piloting its first mentorship program which partners YLC members with YLC alumni for continued leadership coaching. We are also designing an acceleration program for female members to access other city boards.

With much going on, we remain focused on fulfilling our mission: to develop the city's future leaders through community-based projects.

Community Spotlight: The NOLA Coalition
YLC is proud to partner with The NOLA Coalition - an unprecedented gathering of over 350 businesses and organizations ready to actively support NOPD and youth services for a Clean, Safe, and Beautiful New Orleans.

The NOLA Coalition supports near-term actions to reduce violence, paired with social services to drive generational change.  We stand ready to invest our time, people, expertise, and money to help make a difference for New Orleans.

The Plan:
1. Community Support for NOPD – Near-term actions to reduce violence, based on best-practices
2. Investment in Youth Support Services – The creation of a $15M program, distributed over 3 years, aimed at strengthening social services to support our youth and drive generational change (now accepting contributions)

Clean. Safe. Beautiful. New Orleans
Young Leadership Council (YLC) is proud to call New Orleans home. A center of culture, creativity, and innovation. New Orleans packs a whole lot of personality into a diverse, dynamic, and energizing hub. And we are determined to keep it that way.

Throughout the remainder of the year, YLC is hosting speakers, events, and volunteer opportunities focused on one central theme: Clean. Safe. Beautiful.

A clean, safe, and beautiful New Orleans is one where our members are excited to live, work, and raise a family. A clean, safe, and beautiful New Orleans is one where out-of-state young professionals want to move, and locals want to stay.

YLC is a community of passionate young professionals working to ensure New Orleans is a place we will always be proud to call home.
