Laman Outreach Summer 2017 Newsletter

Some would argue that the holiday season, beginning at Thanksgiving and ending with Christmas, is the busiest time of year. While I'd agree that it makes for one full month, summer is by far the craziest season for our family. Fulltime kids-out-of-school-mom-ing combined with fulltime non-profiting has added up to early mornings, full days, late nights and a decision to combine our typically monthly newsletters into one that covers all three summer months.

Although you haven't heard from us in official newsletter form since the end of May, I can assure you that we have been at work, God has been moving in Haiti and that we continue to see lives transformed. And we're not just talking about Haitian lives! It has been awesome and quite frankly unanticipated to hear how the lives of our supporters (you!) are being transformed in response to lives being transformed in Haiti.

We had envisioned this cumulative summer newsletter as an impressive, bulleted list of all of the behind-the-scenes tasks that we have accomplished over the past three months. In the meantime, we received a beautiful letter from one of our monthly sponsors explaining how their granmoun is impacting their lives and the lives of their children. Then we recalled all of the summer's disheartening current events from around the world and it struck us - why would we share our completed to-do list when we could instead offer you the same encouragement that this sponsor's words afforded us? So, without further ado, here's a little inspiration for your Monday:

"Laman Outreach is not only changing lives in Haiti but in our own home as well. A picture of our granmoun hangs on our refrigerator – a constant reminder to pray for our granmoun and her family. Our children say we have "adopted" our granmoun. We have had many conversations of what daily life is really like in Haiti for our granmoun. What poverty really looks like. No refrigerator. No air conditioning. No mattress to rest on each night. No snacks in the pantry. Our little $35 a month was not only providing food and clean clothes but also a chance to hear about Jesus. Something we take for granted as each of those things are readily available to us. Our perspective of the world changed. We all realized that when we supported our granmoun, we were sharing part of our lives with her. She is part of our family. Though we have never met her -- we love her. Our daughters began to pray that the Lord would provide a way for us to "adopt" another granmoun. And our God is faithful. We now have two pictures hanging on our refrigerator – a constant reminder of God's provision, love and faithfulness. I Thessalonians 2:8, 'so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.'"

As of today, we have 6 granmoun in the Elderly Project waiting for a monthly sponsor. Will you consider how $35 a month would transform the life of a granmoun and quite possibly your life as well? Click here to learn more about the Elderly Project or click any of the "Donate" buttons to be taken to a secure donation platform where you can sign up to become a monthly sponsor.
