Spring 2020 Newsletter

We hope that you are well and able to continue working whilst the recent changes continue to unfold. It is incredible how quickly our daily lives and surroundings changed, with the team at Barr Gazetas reacting brilliantly to it. We are very lucky that it is business as usual here, and hope you enjoy reading some of our recent news. Best wishes to everyone.
We are now two weeks into working from home, BG style. Like you, we are all quickly becoming experts in remote meetings. Thank you to all our project teams for continuing to work so well together.

This was some of the Barr Gazetas team on Friday at 5pm, catching up with a drink after another successful week working remotely.

Jon presented at FutureBuild alongside Jane Wakiwaka, Head of Sustainability for The Crown Estate.

They discussed The Crown's approach to wellbeing in their portfolio, focussing on how BG-designed One Heddon Street became the world's first WELL-accredited co-working space.

We were thrilled to win the Hotel, Retail & Leisure category in the 2019 AJ Retrofit Awards.

We were finalists in three categories:

Listed Building - Quadrant Arcade
Hotel, Retail & Leisure - Quadrant Arcade
Offices - One Heddon Street
At the end of last year we completed the refurbishment and repositioning of 25 Victoria Street for LaSalle, a dated office building. The building now provides grade A office space with a new entrance/reception and occupier facilities.

A simple material palette of concrete, timber, brass and black metal are used throughout the project helping to raise the identity of the building as a whole.

We had a great afternoon at the NLA On Location: Westminster event.

Alistair led the tour of Oxford Street and Regent Street, taking in our work with The Crown Estate on Quadrant Arcade and One Heddon Street.

Tom is delighted to be on the list of judges for the AJ Retrofit Awards this year, a subject that is very close to our hearts.

Entries are already open and you can submit yours here
We are proud to be on the list of supporters of RetroFirst, a campaign by Architects’ Journal to prioritise retrofitting existing buildings over demolition and rebuild.

We are very lucky to work with clients and consultants who champion sustainability and work together for a better future for us all.

We hope that this collective effort by the industry, including the work being carried out by Architect's Declare and the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge, can create a lasting change.

We are delighted that Quadrant Arcade is on the list of Regional Finalists in this year's Civic Trust Awards.

The arcade will be fully open this year, providing the West End with a new retail destination.

Tom Barton represented Barr Gazetas at the AE17 Chit Chat 5, an evening of PechaKucha on the future of Walthamstow.

He presented our two Walthamstow projects: Making Places and Truman's Brewery.
Thank you for reading
Stay safe and healthy and we look forward to seeing you all in person in the not-too-distant future
