January 2019 - Wine and Food of the Holy Land

News in brief:
  • Wine and Food Tour of the Holy Land, May 14-24, 2019
Wine and Food Tour of the Holy Land
Let's explore the food and wine of the Holy Land!
We are down to the wire on our up coming trip to Israel and Palestine. We have nine intrepid travelers and need at least one more to complete our tour group but can welcome more. We know you are out there because we have spoken to so many that have loved touring Israel and the ancient sites of their territories. We are really excited about this trip because it's so far from the wine country trips to the common European destinations. This will be a much more exotic wine country tour.

On our first day after landing in Tel Aviv we'll travel north to Recanti Winery and taste the ancient Marawi varietal which is thought to be around 3000 years old. A Recanti vineyard source is shown above.
We are hoping that our travel group will be interested in the local food and wine and have plans to explore both at dinner most nights. Word has it that it's very easy to be a vegetarian/vegan in this part of the world. We welcome you to join us!
This is shakshuka, a traditional Israeli breakfast dish similar to huervos rancheros in that it's a blend of peppers, tomatoes, and coriander served hot as a nest for cooked eggs. I'm looking forward to this.
Our daughter Kimberly visited Israel in 2015 and had such a good travel experience that we were intrigued when Timothy Mullner approached us about a custom :Nota Bene tour focusing on food and wine. This is what intrigued us the most about Timothy Mullner’s proposal. We liked the idea of exploring wine and food that is not commonly found in restaurants or cookbooks in the US. We are certainly not done exploring the wine regions of Europe, it’s just that Timothy’s proposal seemed so current and exciting that we thought the timing was perfect. This trip is for the adventurous among you who have seen the way Israel is affecting the politics and world view of so many. Why not go there and see how the history and culture of Israel and Palestine have converged to give us this moment in time…or the one we will see when we go? Our focus will include food and wine whenever possible, which is every day. Please bring a cork screw in your luggage so you are prepared to taste when the perfect moment arises.
A brief overview of the trip:

We will stay in three hotels during the trip, all four stars; the first night by the sea in Netanya north of Tel-Aviv, the next two nights in a Kibbutz in Tiberias on the Sea of Galilee, and the balance in Jerusalem.
