Where do you start when you want to change? When you are feeling upset by a situation or a relationship?
I find the best place to start is in accepting where you are right now.
Some would argue that the law of attraction would say to avoid feeling where you are, what you are feeling now and focus on where you want to be. I have found this to be true when things are going ok in life.
However, when you have an underlying feeling that is keeping you stuck, a resistance to believing something good could come of this or an unconscious belief about yourself or the world, when this happens, no matter how much you focus on what you want, it is the underlying feeling that will attract more of this to you.
So when you want to change something, make peace with where you are.
There are many ways of doing this - you could use meridian tapping, meditation, thought inquiry through The Work (Byron Katie), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) or any other practice that helps you notice where you are - and this is the important part - notice without judgment! Making peace with where you are gives you the space to move forward, to change, to be open to new perspectives and possibilities. This is something I try to work on at the start of each day - and it really helps me to notice where I am.
I would like to end with a quote from Gabrielle Bernstein from her book Detox Judgement:
“Acceptance is the answer to all my problems today.
When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, some place, thing or situation
- some factor my life unacceptable to me,
and I can find no serenity until
I accept that person, place, thing or situation
as being EXACTLY the way it is supposed to be at this moment!”

During these monthly drop-in sessions we will address how stress affects us and different techniques that can be used to let go of stress, change our thinking/beliefs about what is causing the stress and bring more clarity, grounding and health into our daily lives. Come out to share, connect, discuss and get a new perspective or new ideas on how to deal with the stress in your life.
Monthly drop in sessions will be held at the Carp Ridge Wellness Center every 2nd Thursday of the month (9:30am to 10:30am) and every last Wed of the month (7:00 to 8:00pm).
