Tapping into Life

We all want to feel loved, respected, supported in our lives.  And it can be difficult when the ones around us don't cooperate with what we want or we haven't yet found the person we are looking for to make us feel this way.  We often end up feeling frustrated, angry, helpless, sad or unloved and alone.

I know this feeling of wanting/needing someone to change so I can feel better. 

Over the past few years, I was struggling with needing my kids (all three of them are teenagers) to just respect me!  I felt this was something I deserved and needed to teach my kids.  I tried for a long time to get respect from them - by talking, by giving consequences, by example and even at times by telling myself I would treat them the way they treated me!  The more I tried to change them, the less respected I felt.

But I finally discovered the secret - I was the one who needed to give myself the respect I was looking for.  It was challenging at first, but I addressed how I felt which included guilt, shame, blame, hopelessness and not feeling good enough (that one was buried deep in there).  I stuck with it and made sure that my decisions, my behaviors, actions and words were respectful to me.  It was a new way of looking at things and I made different choices.  And I felt respected without needed the kids to change.  And I was able to respect their choices and decisions all while treating myself in a respectful way and making choices and decisions that felt good!

And slowly our dance changed.  I felt respected - by them and most importantly by me. I am very grateful for the relationship I have with all of my kids now - and feel truly blessed to be able to enjoy our time together so much.

So consider this when you are looking for someone else to make you feel better - is there a part of you that is holding back on giving  yourself the respect, the love or the support you deserve?   Be aware of your thoughts - are they respectful, loving and supportive? 

By using Eutaptics style of tapping, being aware of my thoughts and feelings and working at changing my perspective on the past, present and future, I know I help myself feel the way I want.  And standing from that place, I can give respect, love and support to those around me and am able to receive it back.

"You can't change what's going on around you until  you change what's going on within you".

Book Corner

This month I have started reading a wonderful book that was a Christmas gift from a good friend (Annette) in Germany called "The Body Keeps the Score - Mind, Brain and Body in the Transformation of Trauma" by Bessel Van Der Kolk.  This fascinating book contains many stories from the author's career starting in the late 1960's and what he has learned about trauma, PTSD and the brain over the past 45 years. Through his experience with his patients, he helps the reader to understand how trauma affects us all in different ways and what can help with the healing process.  He offers different forms of treatment that take into account the healing of the mind, brain and body that serves as a guide to dealing with your own trauma or helping others.

"Dealing with Stress"
Support & Coaching Drop in Sessions with Lisa Kopil

During these monthly drop-in sessions we will address how stress affects us and different techniques that can be used to let go of stress, change our thinking/beliefs about what is causing the stress and bring more clarity, grounding and health into our daily lives.

Monthly drop in sessions will be held at the Carp Ridge Wellness Center (Leaning Center Building) every 2nd Thursday of the month (10:00 to 11:00am) and every last Wed of the month (7:00 to 8:00pm).

Eutaptics is a modality that combines meridian tapping (based in the Chinese meridian system used in acupressure/acupuncture) with concepts from other modalities especially NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming).  Faster EFT addresses the mind/body connection in a way that gives you control of your thoughts and emotions.  It works with your subconscious mind, working with the body to reduce stress and releasing physical and emotional symptoms.

I use this tapping technique to help my clients reduce the stress in their bodies so they can discover the underlying beliefs they have that trigger the reactions , feelings and patterns that they want to change.  We can then work together on changing the perceptions of past experiences that have led to those limiting beliefs.
