The World Bank Group launched a Call for Innovation under the West Africa Coastal Areas Management Program (WACA) on February 28th. This was created to tackle ports and coastal resilience development challenges in coastal areas that are complex and need innovative solutions. The best three applicants will have the opportunity to present their ideas at the Demo day, which is currently planned for 11 November 2020. Due to COVID-19 outbreak and its tremendous burden on health systems, people’s livelihoods and economies, a new timeline was posted on the WACA website. The new due date for Expressions of Interest July 1, 2020.

If you are interested in submitting an Expression of Interest to the WACA Call for Innovation but have questions, the Request for Clarification Deadline/Q&A is open from now until June 22, 2020 (11:59pm US Eastern Standard Time). Applicants will have an opportunity to ask direct questions to the WACA team, by sending an email to waca@worldbank.org. Questions which may be applicable to all applicants will be posted, together with the answers, on the FAQ section of the Call for Innovation website. Applicants are therefore encouraged to look at this page on a regular basis.
This Call for Innovation seeks to identify innovative and feasible solutions to fight coastal erosion and flooding associated with the development of large commercial ports and complex lagoon systems in the six WACA countries. Find more detail about the challenge here.
