an account of the ministry and mission
of the Augusta District UMC

Thursday, December 12th is the Christmas Open House drop-in at the district parsonage.  Did you know the district owns a beautiful parsonage, paid in full?  Now is your opportunity to visit 472 Northridge Circle in Evans. Join us between 4:00 & 6:00 p.m. for appetizers & punch and receive a Christmas keepsake.  Don’t forget to get your picture made at the selfie station! Just around the corner is Wesley UMC, 825 North Belair Road, Evans,  where we’ll gather at 6:00 p.m. for Christmas dinner by Chef Ray.  The menu is your choice of Filet Mignon, Bone-in Pork Chop or Salmon, Mashed Potatoes, Broccolini, Rolls, and Crème Brulee. There will be a professional photographer on site to take your picture by the Christmas tree!  RSVP to the district office by Monday, Dec. 9th.
A Word From the Mission Specialist
One of the most intriguing aspects of the Advent and Christmas season is its invitation to follow a new pathway into the future.  The Gospels include many stories of travel: Mary's visit to Elizabeth, her journey to Bethlehem with Joseph, the arrival of the shepherds, the road taken by the mysterious Magi, and the young Holy Family’s sojourn in Egypt. These are enticing stories of people who responded to God's invitation to set out by a new and different way.
The Christmas song, I Wonder as I Wander, has been sounding in my heart these first days of Advent as I ponder what path God is calling us to follow into a new year and a new decade:
I wonder as I wander out under the sky
How Jesus my Saviour did come for to die
For poor on'ry people like you and like I
I wonder as I wander out under the sky
Advent draws our gaze toward the horizon, full of anticipation for the Christ who is making his way toward us all over again.  In Advent the Holy Spirit also invites us to open our eyes to the salvation story that is going before us and working within us even now.  God challenges us to take the journey, to wonder and to wander, not just be onlookers or bystanders to what new thing God is doing.
At charge conferences this fall, we heard stories of new ways the Holy Spirit is calling us to reach out to our communities.  Following that inspiration, I have led visioning retreats with new governing boards and consulted with congregations feeling the stirring to follow God’s invitation to try something new.  What enticing new way is this season inviting your congregation to follow? I am excited for my own new calling to be your guide.  Let’s wonder and wander together out under the sky, following a new path to God’s future.

We have the North Georgia Conference selfie station for use at Christmas events in the Augusta District now through December 22. If your church would like to use it, please reserve at this link:  Beth will bring it to you and make sure you know how to use it.  After your event, you will pass it back to Beth or to the next church using it.  Have fun!
