Special General Conference 2019 | Day 2

"If we could get it right in the church we could get it right in the world." -Rev. Dr. Byron Thomas quoting the first African-American woman bishop in the UMC, Bishop Leontine Kelly. Thomas implored the General Conference to consider the witness our unity, despite our differences, could be to the world.

In Legislative Committee, Majority Vote to Advance Only Traditional Plan and Disaffiliation Plans
On Day 2 of the Special General Conference, the 864-member body met as a legislative committee to determine which petitions will be voted on by the conference in plenary session Tuesday. Today the body only sent forward the Traditional Plan with amendments and two plans that allow churches, with some limitations, to leave the denomination with their property. Members of North Georgia's diverse delegation participated in the discussion.

Space for Prayer at General Conference
The United Methodist Church believes prayer changes things. Soon after the Special Session of General Conference was scheduled in 2016, a Praying Our Way Forward initiative began. Here in St. Louis a large prayer space has been set aside for delegates and guests.
