Meet the IALP Class of 2023

 Shani Golovay, Greenville, is research manager for the Nutrient Research Education Council working to coordinate research efforts related to nutrient loss in the state of Illinois. She has served in the agricultural industry as a professor at various colleges in Florida, California and Illinois. She has lived and worked in agriculture in Mississippi, Kansas, Florida, Ukraine and in both southern and northern California as well as Illinois. Shani has a bachelor’s degree in agronomy from the University of Illinois, a masters and doctorate degree from Mississippi State University and has worked with corn, cotton, soybeans, wheat, sorghum, vegetables, fruit, olives, almonds and ornamentals.

Martin Andreas Energy & Ecosystems Seminar
The IALP Class of 2023 spent a few days in St. Louis, MO, and Southwestern, IL for the Martin L. Andreas Energy & Ecosystems Seminar. They started the seminar off with a tour of the Bayer Research Center in Chesterfield, MO. While there the class also heard from Ross Bicklemeyer, giving a presentation on The Ecosystem of Agriculture and Energy. 
On Thursday the class started the day off at the Mel Price Lock and Dam in Alton. The class enjoyed a presentation on the lock and dam systems of the Illinois River and a tour of the lock and dam. Following the lock and dam tour, the class heard a presentation from Dr. Steven Herrington on the Nutrient Ecosystem Challenges for the Mississippi River & the Gulf of Mexico: The Nature Conservancy's Perspective. The class ended the evening with a tour and dinner at Eckert's Orchard. After dinner, Erin Nazetta from the Broadview Capital Holdings Company gave a presentation on 'Soy Diesel & Corn Ethanol: Where do we go from here?' The class enjoyed IALP Alumni Dean (Cookie) Campbell (IALP '86) joining us for the evening.
The class rounded out the seminar at Prairie Farms-Granite City bottling plant and a stop at Prairie Farms Headquarters in Edwardsville. While at headquarters the class heard a presentation from Gary Davis, Vice-President of Sales on the changes going on in the dairy industry.   The class will be on a break until November when we kick off the winter session of seminars concluding with our International Study Seminar.
