Advent

Advent has a twofold character: as a season to prepare for Christmas when Christ’s first coming to us is remembered; as a season when that remembrance directs the mind and heart to await Christ’s Second Coming at the end of time.  Advent is thus a period for devout and joyful expectation.

General Norms for the Liturgical Year and the Calendar (GNLYC), 39
The scripture of Advent takes us on its usual journey; Christ’s own call to the disciples to stay awake, the preaching of John the Baptist, and the figure of Mary in the incarnation of Christ.  The Old Testament scriptures are filled with rich images and prophecies of the one who is to come.

Arrangements for Advent

Liturgical arrangements for Advent will once again centre around the Introductory Rites.  The Mass each Sunday will open as follows:
  • Entrance Hymn
  • Sign of the Cross and Greeting
  • Introduction by the Priest
  • Singing of Advent Litany (Bernadette Farrell) while the candles of the Advent wreath are lit
  • Penitential Act (2nd form, spoken)
  • Kyrie (may be said or sung)
  • Collect Prayer

Change of copyright status for Seek ye first and Servant Song

While these hymns were previously covered by our Word of Life licence, One License have advised us that they have been unsuccessful in having them added to their catalogue.  Further enquiries with the Australian representatives for these hymns to have them added have also been unsuccessful.  As such, we cannot use either Seek ye first or Servant Song from this point forward.

As both these hymns were part of our core parish repertoire, we will assess whether they need to be replaced with substitutes.

Do you have slides appearing in your slide shows for Mass like this?

Slides prepared in old formats we previously used don't always work in our current format.  Please make sure that you download the texts in the current slide format from our slide catalogue.  If you use slides provided on a USB drive, and you need this updated, please leave it in the sacristy, clearly marked for Robert, and he will update it for you.
Remember, if you have any questions or feedback, please contact Robert

Thank you for your continued support and liturgical leadership in our parish
