Welcome to the first Newsletter of the newly formed Cape Town Unicity Triathlon Association (CTUTA), the first of the Western Cape Districts that has been established along the new structure adopted by Triathlon South Africa (TSA). We have almost finalized the transition phase from Western Province Triathlon Association (WPTA) to Cape Town Unicity Triathlon Association (CTUTA)
The New Structure
In line with SASCOC requirements for provincial sports governing bodies to align with Districts created within each province, the new Cape Town Unicity Triathlon Association has been established! CTUTA will be one of 6 Districts, which used to form part of the old Western Province. CTUTA will liaise directly with TSA and will select a team to represent us at the national championships. Governing bodies for the other 5 districts, including Cape Winelands, West Coast, Overberg, Central Karoo and Eden will also be formed in due course. These districts will report to the Western Cape Sport Council through the Western Cape Triathlon Association (WCTA), which will be formed once more of the districts have been established.
WCTA will control the six Districts so that there is uniformity in the Province. A lot of work has happened in the background and an interim committee has been elected to manage this until more districts have been established.
The committee of the Cape Town Unicity Triathlon Association has been working hard to get a new constitution adopted and to implement the new TSA registration process for 2016-17. TSA is now also using the MOBII System. More details on registering for the new season are below.

Not in the City?
If you do not live within the Metropole of the Cape Town Unicity, there's no need to panic. Any member of the former Western Province Triathlon Association, or any athlete living in the Western Cape will be taken care of by CTUTA and / or WCTA until a District Association has been formed in your area. For registration, all Western Cape based athletes will register under the WPTA page on the TSA Registration System.
It is highly unlikely that this will change during the current season (Sept 2016 to August 2017) and any member registering as part of "WPTA" will retain their license for the entire season. Members will not be required to join a District before it is up and running properly.
If you do live outside the Unicity and are keen to get involved with the Triathlon Association in your area, give us a shout!
Registering for 2016-17
The new Triathlon Season started on 1 September. That means that you will need a 2016-17 License for any Triathlon or Duathlon event taking place from 1 September onward. Triathlon South Africa (TSA) has now also implemented the MOBII registration system (which was used by WPTA last season) and athletes are now requested to register and pay directly on the TSA website. Once on the TSA site, you select REGISTER from the Home Page and then WP TRIATHLON from the Registration Page. You will be guided to the MOBII Registration System.
For Western Cape / Province Athletes it is compulsory to belong to a club in order to register for a TSA license. You select your club when you register and the membership will be verified between the Association and Club in the background.
License rates for early bird registrations (before November 2016) will remain the same as last year. That is R450 for a Senior Full Racing License, R280 for a Senior Recreational License and R350 for a Junior Racing License. After November the fees will increase.
We urge all Triathletes to register as soon as possible to avoid delays with obtaining a Triathlon License. The season is off to a quick start with Cape Ultra Triathlon at Theewaterskloof Dam this weekend and the FreshPak Festival next month.

Provincial Champs & Selection
You will see from the calendar above that there aren't many weekends available with all the event (Triathlon and other) coming our way.
The Committee has also selected the following events as "pre-qualifiers": Slanghoek Triathlon (Short or Long) or Jailbreak (Minimum or Maximum). It is important to note that it is not compulsory to do these events, neither is will it be an alternate selection race for Provincial Champs. It is purely an additional event where you can proof your prowess, should an unforeseen circumstance hamper your performance at Provincial Champs.
The CTUTA / WCTA Championships and SA Triathlon Championships are in the process of being finalized with TSA and the outcome will be communicated in due course.
Should you have any queries, concerns or require information; please do not hesitate to drop us a line at Admin@WCTriathlon.co.za
Good luck with your training and we look forward to seeing at any one of the events!
Regards
CTUTA
The official Districts of the Western Cape are depicted above. Strictly speaking a Triathlon Association should be formed for each District but this will not be practical for some of the districts. WCTA and / or CTUTA will cater for members who live in a District that does not have a Triathlon Association.
