ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST
EPISCOPAL CHURCH A big-hearted small church nestled in the mountains of Ivy, Virginia
Advent and Church Meeting
Pentecost is almost over. Next we look to Advent, the time of waiting, for the birth of Christ. During this time of expectation, St. John's has some very important business to conduct. Your Vestry will report to you, the congregation. As part of this report, a very important item needs to be discussed. This Item is the Budget. It is necessary for everyone to understand where the money comes from and to where it goes. For a small church, we have a lot of expenses that are constant, even if income drops. Your input is requested. Please put December 2, 2018 on your calendar and attend church that Sunday. An agenda for the meeting will be posted next week.
This Sunday the Rev. Dr. Mary Thorpe will lead us in Holy Eucharist. After the service, during fellowship and coffee time, there will be a brief meeting with Rev. Thorpe. The format is not known at this time. However, questions are encouraged.
The next Sunday, November 25, is the Last Sunday in Pentecost, also called Christ the King. The Rev. Tige Newell will lead Holy Eucharist.
The December 2 service, the First Sunday in Advent, will be Morning Prayer, led by our own Lay Leader Kevin Hensley.
Commitments for other December Sundays are not yet complete, and will be announced as they are available.
The question of a Christmas Eve service has been discussed by the Vestry. Obtaining a Priest for Christmas Eve is likely to be almost impossible. Therefore, it is recommended that you visit a local sister church to worship on Christmas Eve and/or Christmas Day as you desire.
Giving thanks is good at any time. Most especially at this time.
