Changes at St. John's

Now that Rev. Emily Rowell Brown has said goodbye, we must adjust.  Kevin Hensley has agreed to lead up to two Morning Prayer services a month.  This is a lot of work, so we appreciate his willingness to fill in.  Senior Warden June Tate is working to find supply clergy to provide Eucharist services.  Updates will be provided.
The Rev. Dr. Mary Thorpe from Ministry Transitions will be working with the Vestry in the search for a new Vicar.  She has also agreed to lead Eucharist on November 18th.
One of the main concerns at this time is keeping attendance up at services.  If the numbers drop much, the Diocese may think we are not salvageable. So please continue to attend as often as you can!

Changes at the Diocese

The Right Rev. Shannon Sherwood Johnston, our Bishop since 2007, has decided to retire.  His retirement is effective immediately after Convention on November 3rd.  During the Convention, there is to be the election of a Provisional Bishop until a proper search is done for our new Bishop.  So the Diocese is saying goodbye to Bishop Johnston.

Bishops' visitation schedule for 2019

The Diocese of Virginia has posted the Bishops' visitation schedule for 2019.  St. John the Baptist will receive a visit on February 17, 2019.

Prayers of the Parish

In our worship, we pray each other's prayers together, and in our daily lives may we also pray the prayers of the parish community.

We pray for members and friends of our church community, including Margaret Anderson, Rod Devlin, Betty Dickerson Holt, Mark Klendworth, Gary Miller, Ruth Shaver, Nancy Sprouse, Gary Stevens, Carter and Eddie Strange, and Edwina Tanzi.

We pray for all those who lost family and their homes in the recent hurricanes, flooding, and tornadoes.
