"Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation, must begin by subduing the freedom of speech" - Benjamin Franklin

A Message to our readers: I apologize that this issue of the Jefferson Messenger is a couple of days late, partly due to a very busy schedule, finding not able to complete the article I had already started by Friday's deadline. My schedule included attending an event where Congressman McClintock was speaking to an audience who unanimously agreed was one of the most inspiring speeches he had ever delivered. I am somewhat embarrassed to admit that it was not just my busy schedule, but I also had an attack of writer's block, trying to come up with something during these very divided and difficult times in our country. To my delight, the Congressman offered exactly what I was looking for to complete the article I had been struggling with and have lived up to my reputation of being “long” on words.

Will You Lend Your Voice?

The importance of voting in 2020 should resonate with Jefferson supporters, more than most, especially when it comes to the election of the President and U.S. Senate, the office and body that appoints court judges.

In California, the importance of voting in 2020 is not only about the protection of your property taxes, with the Proposition 13-Split Roll, but also other state and local ballot measures, election of city councils, county supervisors and don't forget about those you are electing to your local school boards.

We can no longer afford the same old cop out: “Why should I vote? My vote doesn't count in California.” This is what the Socialist Democrat Party, Progressives and Justice Democrats are counting on. They feel what they have accomplished in California will now spread across the nation. And if they succeed in taking over the Presidency and the Senate, the first thing they will do will be to resurrect House Resolution 1, “For the People's Act” which translates to “For You Comrade”, that will undermine the integrity of our nation's election process, to include reducing the voter age to 16. Senator McConnell was able to kill the bill in the Senate, but you can't take that to the bank. Second will be to increase the number of judges seated on the U.S. Supreme Court and third, of course, open borders and free health care for all to include undocumented (illegal) immigrants.

In California, the Democrats added to our grief by making it legal to harvest ballots, one of the many gifts left to us by Jerry Brown. Under NO circumstance should anyone give their ballot to a stranger and if you give your ballot to anyone, make sure the envelope is sealed.

Thanks to the efforts by Judicial Watch and the law firm of Harmeet Dhillon, lawsuits have been or will be filed to challenge the legality of ballot harvesting, purging voter rolls, and also California's recent legislation that would keep all Presidential candidates off the March Primary ballot unless they release their tax returns. Which at this time will pertain to both President Trump and Joe Biden.

There are also efforts to bypass the Electoral College system. In a recent August 3, 2019, article in Canada Free Press, it talked about a “backdoor" election scheme that Democrats have been planning and pushing these past dozen years. It's called the National Popular Vote Interstate Contract, a scheme devised in California. It is a written agreement among a group of states (15) and District of Columbia to guarantee that the candidate that wins the popular vote will win the

the presidency. “It seems fair on the surface,” says the author, “but only on the surface. It is a way to bypass the Electoral College, eliminate the smaller states in the selection process, and effectively nullify the Constitution that they continually repudiate.”

Now I recognize that chances are slim to none that the President will win California's electoral votes. However, because the left keeps pounding on us about the importance of the popular vote, then this alone should motivate us to help Get Out the Vote, so we can at least add to Trump's nationwide popular vote count.

You know, it is no longer just about what is going on in California. Everything that America stands for is under siege. I don't care if you have an R, D, G, L or No Party Preference by your name, if you consider yourself an American, then you need to stand up, sound off and make it clear that you will use every power of your being to defeat any candidate who has sold their soul to the policies and agenda of the Democratic Socialists of America, Progressives, or Justice Democrats.

On Sunday's Jefferson State of Mine radio show, Mark Baird asked everyone to stand up and be counted and show up on September 6, at the Robert Matsui Courthouse in Sacramento, when his 2nd amendment case for Open Carry will be heard before Judge Mueller. This again is not just a California issue and due to the recent devastating shootings in El Paso and Dayton, this court case may draw even greater attention, making it even more important to hopefully have thousands showing that we support both the 1st and 2nd Amendments.

I ask the same of all of you when it comes to the 2020 elections, but you don't have to travel to Sacramento to lend your voice. Our cause and this election is not just about the 2nd amendment, it is about holding on to our Republic form of government, equality and all rights under the Constitution.

I am asking you to stand up, be counted and lend your voice in your neighborhoods, your cites and counties. You do not have to be affiliated with a political party to educate and register voters or to secure signatures on petitions, knock on doors, make phone calls, or stand on street corners or other public places. I hope you will be further motivated by the probability that petitions may be forthcoming to recall both Governor Newsom and Secretary of State Alex Padilla. This could be just the shot in the arm and driving force for all to jump on board and volunteer to Get Out the Vote.

The time is Now!

The Congressman and Abraham Lincoln

Earlier, I referenced the speech that Congressman McClintock gave on Saturday, in El Dorado County, when he talked about the division in our country and the left playing the race card. Also he talked about the difference between capitalism versus socialism, describing the latter as slavery. He then referenced Abraham Lincoln's 1858 speech at the Republican State Convention when delegates chose Lincoln as their candidate for the U.S. Senate, while running against Democrat Stephen A. Douglas.

After the vote, Lincoln gave a speech that included his famous quote: “A house divided against itself cannot stand,” a concept familiar to Lincoln's audience as a statement by Jesus recorded in all three synoptic gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke.

In doing research, I found that Lincoln's friends regarded the speech as too radical for the occasion. His law partner, William H. Herridon, considered Lincoln as morally courageous but politically incorrect. Lincoln read the speech to him before delivering it, referring to “House Divided” language this way: “The proposition is indisputably true...and I will deliver it as written. I want to use some universally known figure, expressed in simple language as universally known, that it may strike home to the minds of men in order to rouse them to the peril of the times.”

A House Divided is available on the internet, but I give you a portion of Lincoln's speech prior and following his reference to a House Divided:

We are now far into the fifth year, since a policy was initiated, with the avowed object, and confident promise, of putting an end to slavery agitation.

Under the operation of that policy, that agitation has not only, not ceased, but has constantly augmented.

In my opinion, it will not cease, until a crisis shall have been reached, and passed.

A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

I believe this government cannot endure, permanently half slave and half free.

I do not expect the union to be dissolved – I do expect the house to fall – but I do expect it will cease to be divided.

It will become all one thing or all the other.

President Abraham Lincoln and the “radical” Republican Party abolished slavery 154 years ago. And here we are today in a battle once more, this time, fighting against slavery under socialism with a President who is also considered to be politically incorrect.

Again, I ask - Will You Lend Your Voice For freedom?
