Don't Be Fooled – Be A Smart Voter

The recall effort for Governor Newsom is well underway in El Dorado County, but there are also signature gathers showing up at shopping centers circulating another petition and misleading voters. Petitioners appear to be using the recall petition to lure people to sign another petition which they purport will protect your property taxes. These are paid signature gatherers, some reported to be from as far away as Chicago.

The ballot measure/petition is titled “Increase Funding for Public Schools and Community Colleges and Local Government Service by Changing Property Tax Assessment of Commercial and Industrial Property". What this measure actually does is repeal Proposition 13-Split Roll.

This is another attack on California businesses by Governor Newsom, Democrats/Progressives, teachers' unions and League of Women Voters. There is also a concern that if they can convince voters to pass this initiative, they will next attempt to repeal residential property owners tax protection.

Not only could small commercial property owners see their property taxes increase 10 times, but so will agricultural property owners who do any type of manufacturing or production on their Ag properties. Additionally, tax increases for commercial and industrial property owners will be passed on to their tenants, who will then pass down those increases to their customers.

So who gets these additional tax dollars? Forty percent of the fund will go to the Superintendent of Public Institution to distribute based upon the various education codes, etc. Sixty percent goes to local governments based upon where it was collected with no guidance as to what they do with it.

California ranks 43rd in education in the nation showing no improvements, even though between the years of 2002 and 2016, voters have passed over $31 billion in school bonds. But wait, there's more! Newsom and the super majority democrat State Legislature just approved a $15 billion School Construction Bond for the November 2020 ballot even though the State of California has been reported to have a $21.5 billion surplus and looking at another $7 billion to be added next year.

Please be an educated and smart voter. And, if you want to sign the recall petition, you must be a registered voter. If you have moved, changed your name or want to change your party affiliation, then you need to re-register to vote.

When the new State of Jefferson is formed, the Governor and the Legislators will be your employees and you will be the boss. They will have to answer to you for the jobs they are doing or not doing well because we will have the representation needed to finally have our voices heard.

Christmas Day 1776

It was the winter of 1776. It was cold and the army of George Washington was tired and the morale had almost hit rock bottom. There had been defeat after defeat in their war for independence. They were very much in need of a victory. Washington's army was slowly depleting, either from sickness or desertion.

Finally a plan had been devised to attack the Hessian outposts around Trenton. The men had gathered boats in the previous months to use mostly in a defensive measure, but they were ready!

Anticipating support from two other divisions, Washington's troops of 2.600 began crossing the Delaware River about 11 pm on Christmas Day. The conditions were harsh with sleet and a blinding snowstorm. This weather condition was too severe for the other divisions planning on joining Washington and could not cross.

The troops successfully reached Delaware just before dawn on December 26th, and the Hessians were defeated by the small single army. This victory was the needed morale booster and the American Revolution was revitalized to continue on and gain freedom.

We could learn from this in our own quest for the statehood of Jefferson. No matter what day it was, how bad the storm or how big the mountain, Washington's troops continued on knowing full well the importance of the outcome. They were fighting for their liberty, their freedom and the future of their families. Never give up the fight. The time has come for fifty-one!
