"Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation, must begin by subduing the freedom of speech" - Benjamin Franklin

What Price Liberty?

The Jefferson Movement has been a call for Liberty, often expressed by our learned spokesperson, Mark Baird. On Tuesday, at the State of the Union address President Trump also struck a chord when he said, “America was founded on liberty and independence, not government coercion, domination and control. We are born free and we will stay free. Tonight, we renew our resolve that America will never be a Socialist country.”

The release of the New Green Deal (NGD), authored by Congressperson Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), is now causing journalists, government staffers and our elected to see this as an effort by Democrat-Socialists to undermine our liberty and our economy. It is also important to note, that Presidential Democrat candidates, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker and Kristen Gillibrand have come out supporting AOC and 70 other Democrats' New Green Deal. Pelosi, not so much.

The good news is, that AOC and her fellow Democrat Socialist polices may in fact be doing a favor to not only our President, but also to us conservatives and those elected officials who represent our base. Adding fuel to the fire is the passage in some states allowing abortion of babies not only at full term but also at birth.

When it comes to the environment, you can bet that every piece of legislation will include more regulation taxes leaving us with “coercion, domination and control” that chips away at our liberties, property rights and personal freedom.

The Fire Fee (Tax) was a perfect example that left about 800,000 rural residents paying $152.33 a year on their properties, but thanks to many of you and the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association actively protesting this tax, it was suspended in 2017. But now there is another

urban Democrat Senator, Bob Wieckowski, who is threatening to author a bill to re-instate the Fire Tax.
It is time to protest by calling the Senator's office at 916-651-4010. Remember the funds from this tax were never used to prevent fires nor address the mismanagement of our forests.

Water Tax and water rationing for all California residents! Have you called Senate and Assembly Democrats and the Governor to protest this?

A Rain Tax, could it happen here? In New Jersey, the State Assembly and Senate took it a step further approving a bill that would allow local governments to create water utilities that would give them the power to tax homeowners and business owners with large paved surfaces. Claiming that when it rains, the rainwater mixes with pollutants and seeps into municipal sewage systems. The money collected would replace or repair sewage pipes or create “green infrastructure” such as rain gardens that would collect polluted water.

The point is, that over the next year, we must do everything we can to ensure that our President is re-elected and stop the efforts by Democrat Socialists. So, I ask, what are you willing to sacrifice for liberty? Will you volunteer to knock on doors, make phone calls, or run for a local office? Would you be willing to join SOJ in supporting and aligning with Election Integrity Project, those looking to repeal taxes, Sanctuary State Jurisdiction?

AOC has become the poster child for the Democrat Party whose road leads right through Venezuela. And, as much as the liberal left frustrates and angers us, I see their agenda, plus their actions offering an even greater opportunity to recruit others to join our call for Equal/Fair Representation across this nation. Our time is now!

Sacrifice

If you are a Veteran you are excluded from this conversation. You have made your payment for liberty and we all owe you our deepest gratitude. But the rest of us still have a share of that bill that we must pay. If you have lived comfortably under the fabric of freedom that others have paid for, you still owe your share. If you skip out on your payment it will just fall to your children and grandchildren to pay it. But here's the catch. If we don't pay our bill now, then the interest on that debt goes up. Each generation will have to pay higher interest until finally it must be paid in full again, with blood.

Is that your intention?

Or perhaps you think you can avoid making your payment altogether by packing up and leaving California. You've grown so dissatisfied with the situation that you believe, same as a child, that if you run away and hide the boogieman won't get you. Here's a news flash for you. There is no place in this country you can run to that this boogieman, liberalism, won't infect. You might choose Arkansas and live out your life in relative freedom but your kids won't And your grandchildren will surely know what the shackles of tyranny feel like as they are doomed to a life of slavery because you would not make your payment.

When ever I start to feel tired, frustrated, beaten up and dejected because of this never ending struggle to remain free all I have to do is think about one thing. This one story removes all my self pity and re-energizes my spirit and motivates me to get up and get back in the fight. Just maybe it will do the same for you.

This is the story of Samuel Whittemore.

Samuel Whittemore was born in 1696, in Charlestown, Mass. Samuel Whittemore was an American farmer and soldier. He was 78 years of age when he became the oldest known colonial combatant in the American Revolutionary War. He fought in King George's War and he also fought in the French and Indian War of  1754, the one started by young George Washington. He later retired to his farm where he lived peacefully until 1775.

On April 19, 1775, British forces were returning to Boston from the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the opening engagements of the Revolutionary War. On their march, they were continually shot at by colonial militiamen.

The 78 year old Whittemore was in his fields when he spotted an approaching British relief brigade under Earl Percy, sent to assist the retreat. Samuel knew what was up. Being a British subject for all of his 78 years he too had become exasperated with the tyranny of King George and was in full support of the patriots and independence. Whittemore heard the gunfire and ran into his house and pulled his musket down from above the fireplace. He grabbed his two dueling pistols and shoved them into his belt and quickly slung his sword across his back and hurried back out to the fields.

I can only imagine how his heart was pumping from adrenaline as memories of battle reignited the warrior within him. He took aim with his musket and dropped a soldier where he stood. Tossing his musket aside, he then drew his pistols and killed another lobsterback with his next shot and then mortally wounded a third with his last volley. By then a detachment of soldiers fell upon him. He drew his sword and began slashing but was completely overwhelmed. They shot him in the face, bayoneted him several times in the chest and beat and kicked him severely as he fell to the ground. They left him for dead in a pool of blood and rejoined the retreat. But Samuel Whittemore was not dead. He was found by colonial minutemen a short time later leaning up against a stone wall trying to reload his musket and pistols so he could rejoin the fight. They took him, under protest, to Dr Colton Tufts who tried to patch him up but gave him no chance for survival. Yet survive he did. Sam Whittemore recovered from all of his injuries and lived for another 18 years before he died of natural causes at age 96.

So I ask you again. Have you made your payment? Have you done enough for liberty? Is there nothing else you can give? Remember Samuel Whittemore. Remember what he sacrificed. Ask yourself what is your high water mark? Have you truly done all you can do? Whittemore never had a point where he said enough was enough. He never gave in and never gave up. So folks, tonight, as you turn off the light and get in bed, ask yourself what did you do for liberty today. Have you done enough? Can you do more? Will you do more? And remember, Samuel Whittemore is watching.

God Bless the State for Jefferson,

Dave Titchenal
