Josep Grau Viticultor winery (DO Montsant) has a special interest to introduce and consolidate its presence in the German market as a part of the winery’s focus in the international markets to be present in countries with a solid wine culture and long import tradition. For this reason, in the next weeks, the winery Josep Grau Viticultor will participate in several activities in different German important cities with the objective to discover the wines and philosophy from Josep Grau winemaker to wine professionals as well as final consumers.

From 18th to 21st of March, wines from Josep Grau Viticultor will be at HALL10 - BOOTH F72.

About us... The winery Josep Grau Viticultor produces 140.000 bottles and 7 out of 10 are exported. The company manages 36 hectares of vineyards located at the DO Montsant wine appellation, in Priorat. Vines grow in different type of soils and they are between 15 and 105 years old. The majority of the vineyards are small and both pruning and harvesting are done manually.

The winery defends an organic viticulture, free of pesticides and herbicides. Several grape varieties are cultivated: white and red grenache, carignancabernet sauvignon and syrah. The main purpose is to preserve the natural attributes of the grape in the bottle. Therefore, wines are not modified at the winery. Winemaker and oenologist Josep Grau uses indigenous yeast and adds a minimum proportion of suplhur to protect correctly the wine. 9 out of 10 fermentations are done in cement tanks and the rest in stainless steel tanks and oak barrels.

Wine mainly ages in 2.000 liter Austro-German oak foudres and in 500 liter French oak barrels from different barrel-makers. Wines reflect the Montsant region and the vintage, and they are complex, fresh, structured and well-balanced. 6 wines are currently produced: L’Efecte Volador - Vespres Vinyes Velles - Vespres Blanc - Granit - Regina - La Florens.

The winery was founded in 2003 by Josep Grau, who was interested in the wine sector after working in the investment banking business. In Barcelona, he has open this year a new space to host friends and colleagues and taste wine in small groups. "Tast de Vins" is located in the Born area (Canvis Nous, 13).

La Florens 2014, Gold Medal at the Berliner Wine Trophy celebrated in Berlin in July 2016.

New vintage is now available! One has to be prepared for a wine that would have a marvellous evolution within its aging. 

Origins. Florens 2015 is a wine from a 100 years-old vine planted in argyle and rocky terroir.

Aging. Fermented in cement tanks. Aging for 14 months in 2.000 litre Austrian foudres. 2015 vintage shows the strength and delicateness that an old Monstant Grenache can achieve.

Taste. In nose it shows immediately black ripen fruit, balsamic fragances and a delicate background of black pepper and minerality with notes of flint. It is smoke incoming and that dilutes smoothly. Next there are rose petals and then a fine violet aroma showing the sensitive side of the grapes after a rested and perfect aging.
Tireless complexity
In mouth it has a sublime texture. The balance is the predominant note. It comes in with volume of fruit and acidity that provides a long and pleasant aftertaste. Rounded and velvet tannins within a complexity context. Fresh and long finish that invites the guest to enjoy another glass, with the desire that those sensations will always remain.

It is a wine affordable for the senses but that will keep evolving in bottle and will age nicely.
