Working on the 2020 election
Hi <<First Name>>,

Helping Democrats retake the White House will be our primary goal for the coming year. But with 25 days leading up to the Iowa caucuses, there is still a lot of concern over who the Democrats should nominate. Some analyses suggest choosing a moderate gives Democrats the best chance of defeating President Trump, while others indicate a bold progressive platform is broadly popular and will give an edge to the candidate come November.

We can't know in advance which candidate(s) can put together a campaign and electoral coalition to win on Nov. 3, which is why the Indivisible Montgomery position is that, instead of trying to predict the future, you should support who you want to win. And as a reminder, Indivisible Montgomery will not endorse a candidate during the primary.

What can you do if you want to get involved now? Plenty!

First, if you have a candidate you like, feel free to donate your money and time to those campaigns. This is a critical time for all of the campaigns and they could use your help now. THE CATCH: We are here to defeat Trump. Please be sure to come back and be a part of our efforts to elect the Democratic nominee, even if that person isn't the person you are supporting right now.

Second, you can already make donations to the eventual nominee of a variety of 2020 races. Funds like Ditch Mitch, Retake the Senate, or any of the SwingLeft funds are great ways to make sure your donations are used by eventual nominees in the November election.

Third, maybe you want to donate or volunteer with a group fighting voter suppression or trying to encourage women to run for office? Check out this page with a short list of organizations that fit this bill.

And finally, you can get involved through Indivisible Montgomery. The 2020 version of our Do The Write Thing letter-writing initiative will launch in the next few weeks. Each of our events, like our upcoming Jan. 25 monthly meeting at Kensington Park library from 10:30am to 12:30pm, will also have opportunities to write letters. And our next iteration of dine-arounds, slated for Feb. 22 and 23, will also be letter writing events.

As the year rolls on, we will add more letter and postcard writing events, text and phone banks, canvasses and other ways to get involved.

There's a lot to be done. Dive right in!

The Elections committee is the focal point of all of Indivisible Montgomery's elections activities. This committee also collaborates with other resistance groups in the community to ensure we maximize our volunteer energy.

The MCDCC is recruiting precinct chairs and vice-chairs in Rockville and Gaithersburg. The primary purpose of the role is to represent Democrats at your poll on election day. You will set up a table with campaign literature and answer any questions voters have about any Democrats running. Beyond that, you can canvass your precinct, set up events with elected officials or whatever else you can think of that engages Democrats in your precinct. Please contact Eric Palakovich Carr if you're interested.
We will soon resume our Do the Write Thing letter-writing parties. We'll be writing letters to register voters and to urge registered voters to vote. Information on dates, locations and signing up to follow - watch this space. If you're interested in hosting or leading one of these get-togethers (and you haven't told us that previously), please contact Steve.
In far too many districts around the country, no Democrats run in local elections. The result is lower turnout, which means that up-ballot congressional and statewide candidates get crushed – even when there are plenty of registered Democrats. You can help research which races around the country currently lack Democratic candidates and recruit strong, new candidates in key swing states. Learn more and volunteer with Contest Every Race here.
Your support for our work will be critical to making the change we need in 2020. Please consider giving to Indivisible Montgomery today!
