HerdShare and PorkShare, Spring/Summer 2017

The next MemberShare cycle will begin in April and run through September. We will continue to offer Saturday pick-ups at the farm (first Saturday of the month) and a Pittsburgh pick-up (first Tuesday of the month).

As the farmers market season kicks up, we will be able to offer additional pick-up locations.

For Erie/Crawford county folks, we're planning to be at Goodell Gardens on Wednesday afternoons from 3-6pm (June-September) and at the Little Italy Farmer Market in Erie on Monday afternoons from 3-6pm (June - September). What this means is that during farmers market season, you will have the option to pick up your share at the farmers market (ie for Edinboro folks, the first Wednesday of the month).

For Pittsburgh folks, we're not sure if we'll be headed that way for a weekly farmers market yet- but we will continue to offer a first Tuesday of the month evening pick-up. We have an option for a pick-up site in Squirrel Hill. For continuing members, it would be helpful to know whether a Squirrel Hill location would be more convenient than the current pick up location?

HerdShare and PorkShare each costs $250. In return you receive ~5lbs of beef or pork a month for 6 months. For more information, click here: HerdShare, PorkShare.

Spread the word! If you have friends and family interested in grass-fed beef and pastured pork, please tell them about us.

Around the farm...
Blackberries.
Goji berries.
So these aren't recent pictures! They were taken last summer. In the last week, we started pruning back the brambles, gojis, grapes, and the orchard. We're starting cuttings from many of the varieties using willow water (from our own willows!) as a rooting agent. If the cuttings take, we'll have them to offer next spring at the farm and Goodell Gardens Plant Sale.

Speaking of spring, the US National Phenology Network tracks the start of the spring season using the spring leaf and bloom indices. Apparently, spring is about three weeks ahead of schedule. We've already heard the peepers out a couple of times. What signs let you know that spring is on the way?

Best,
Gretchen & Will
