FROM YOUR HEAD TEACHER

Dear Parents and Carers,

As you may know, the pupil premium is additional funding for schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close the gaps between them and their peers.

At TKA we receive a considerable amount which is spent in ways which we believe will have the maximum impact not only for those pupils in receipt of the grant, but for all pupils.

Some of the pupil premium initiatives have included targetted revision sessions, revision guides, books, equipment and trips. We also know that effective feedback on pupils' work has the greatest impact and that's why staff are working hard to refine their marking and feedback in books and on Google classrooms.

If you have any further queries about Pupil Premium, then do contact Dr Keaney, who is championing this area of work across the school.

One of the issues that has been raised by parents via the Parent Surveys is homework and the clarity around deadlines. We have therefore launched PenStripe https://www.penstripe.co.uk/ which is an online homework organiser. The pupils have been given details of how to use this and we hope it will make the homework process transparent and convenient for all parties involved.

Have a good weekend

Regards,

Sophie Cavanagh
Head Teacher

Harry Potter Studios trip

On Monday, a group of pupils went to the Harry Potter studios to explore how the different aspects of the movie were produced. When we first arrived we went into a cinema where we watched a video of the three main actors in the films talking about their experience creating the movies. We were all given passports and while we went around we had to look out for golden snitches and stamps. From there we continued into the great hall and then to a workshop where we had the chance to see particular scenes and costumes such as: Dolores Umbridge and Rubeus Hagrid.

Also, we saw the different sets that were included within the film and the props that were used in the different scenes during the movies. In the workshop we were also told about the process of making a set design. They showed us how you can add the characteristics from the characters into the scenery, for example how they had made the shape of Hagrid's house to show how tall he was and because the windows were so high you could tell that he obviously doesn't want anyone looking into his house. We could also tell he isn’t very wealthy because of the size of house. After the workshop we looked around “The Big Room”. It was full of props and items and there were green screens where you could pretend to fly on a broomstick or be in the Weasley's Ford Anglia.

We continued and saw more of the amazing props and scenery and explored Diagon alley and platform 9 ¾ where we went on the Hogwarts Express. Finally, we made it to the shop where we had the opportunity to buy anything from wands and robes to Bertie Bott's every flavour Beans. We had an amazing time seeing how one of the greatest movies was created!

Our Anti-bullying ambassadors meet every fortnight and regularly communicate with Mr O'Brien. Their role is to identify and report on any incidents that may involve any pupil interactions that cause upset. On Monday in School Council, it was agreed that these ambassadors, and members of the School Council, will be involved in pupil led break and lunch time duties to ensure that all our members of TKA are upholding our core values.
