Are you average?

The average producer is leaving over $10 per head on the table in lost finisher performance according to our database. SMS created a model to help producers evaluate growing pig performance.   Standardizing costs and weights allow producers to look at performance over a period of time be able to truly compare performance from one closeout to the next.  An index was developed made up of the following components:

  1. % of Death Loss and DOA's
  2. % of Culls and Lights
  3.  Average Daily Gain
  4.  Adjusted Feed Conversion
The above shows the last 100 closeouts for an example system and how performance has changed over time.  This can be broken down by a grower, genetics, building type and various other ways.

These are the things that the person working in the barn every day can truly influence.    Where does the $10 come from you might be wondering?  The database is broken out into 25% increments based on the index and an economic model is used to compare each individual closeout to the top 25% of the database.  That gives the top 25% of the SMS database $0.00 opportunity.    The table below shows how the Opportunity Dollars look for the over 2100 wean to finish closeouts.

Do you want to know what you are leaving on the table?  Do you want to capture more of it?  Give us a call to learn more.

Farm Analysis Program

Another component of the Farm Analysis program looks at wean to service interval but not in just the typical way of % bred by 7 days.  The below example shows a 26 week period of time for an example farm and looks at overall herd as well as individual parity and the % bred during given time periods.
