Another $10 on the table!
In the last newsletter, we talked about producers leaving $10 per head on the table in performance opportunity. On average there is another $10 a head being left on the table when we put the pigs on the semi to go to market. By not putting the right pigs on the truck each time producers are giving up big dollars, not just in sort loss but also in the extra costs of feed and housing. The SMS Carcass Evaluation Program gives you information as the barn is being closed instead of after you have finished, allowing you to make changes to your marketing plan to capture more of the money on the table. The graph below shows an example of 4 different growers that ranged from capturing as little as $2.15 per head to as much as $7.23 per head of the $10.49 per head possible if every pig on the load was the perfect pig for the packer.
