Model motion on Palestine
Please consider submitting this motion to your CLP:
'This CLP notes with outrage and alarm:
That the Israeli government has declared six Palestinian civil society groups* to be “terrorist organisations” without providing evidence
That criminalising these organisations will put any Palestinian seeking to expose human rights violations in grave danger
That international inaction on Israeli human rights abuses over decades has emboldened Israeli governments to suppress Palestinian rights and freedoms
The CLP further notes EDM 583 (https://edm.parliament.uk/early-day-motion/59067) condemning the above mentioned Israeli declaration, in line with the strongest yet demonstration of support for Palestinian rights by CLP and Trade Union delegates at Conference where the motion on Palestine passed overwhelmingly.
This CLP resolves to:
Call on our executive to write to the six Palestinian organisations* expressing our solidarity with them and deploring their designation as “terrorist organisations” by the Israeli government, copying in the Foreign Secretary, the Leader of the Opposition and the Shadow Foreign Secretary
Call on our MP to use all effective means at their disposal to press our government for action not words (i.e. penalties) for Israel’s continuing abuse of Palestinian lives, civil and human rights, including signing EDM 583.
