Lion's Roar                     June 2022

DV's Desk

Thank you, thank you, thank you to every one who participated in and attended St. Mark’s Renewal of Ministry.  May 10th was a very special day for the St. Mark’s family as we renewed our commitment to our baptismal callings and broke bread together.  Your presence was greatly appreciated, whether you joined us in person or remotely.  I am also grateful to those who provided for a lovely time of food and fellowship at the reception following the service.

In her sermon, Bishop DeDe talked at length about the baptismal covenant.  The Covenant, on pages 304-305 in the Prayer Book, outlines how you and I are to be and act as followers of Jesus.  Bishop DeDe also acknowledged that these are tough times for the church.  There are those who do not see the value in attending church.  Others have been hurt by Christians who fail to act in love as Jesus did—-  and as Jesus calls His followers to do.

The early Christian community were called “Little Christs.”  The term was went to be critical and demeaning.  Jesus’ followers, however, gladly adopted the term.  They saw the world’s rejection as proof that Jesus’ followers would be known by their love (see John  and  John 13:34-35, 1 John 3:23-24).

As modern Christians we gather, not because we are perfect and have all the answers.  We gather because we know we are in need of God’s love shown to us in Jesus.  We gather knowing as well that we need the love and support of a gathered community of fellow followers of Jesus.  Wherever the summer may take us, may you and I walk in love.  May we let God’s love shine in us and through us.  May you and I always seek to be Christ’s hands and heart in the world.

Faithfully Yours,
Dawn-Victoria+
