PET RELATED HAND INJURIES

Hello everyone!

Australians LOVE their pets – almost two-thirds of us have at least one! But, our beloved unpredictable furry friends can also be the source of many painful hand injuries. At Melbourne Hand Rehab we see a lot of pet related injuries, so in this months video we share some tips on why this happens and what you can do to lower your risk of getting hurt.

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis. It is not only painful, but can also cause stiffness and may limit your ability to perform everyday tasks. This month we have a free information webinar designed to help you understand your arthritis and better manage the symptoms.

We are currently looking to expand our team and positions are available for a receptionist and physiotherapist. For more details see our Careers page.

In this issue:
  • Video: Pet related injuries & tips on how to avoid them
  • What is Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)?
  • What is 'Dad Quervains'?
  • The do’s and don’ts of taking care of your splint

WHAT IS 'DAD QUERVAINS'?

One of the changes that we often don't think about is the new load that a baby has on the muscles in your wrist and thumb. This can lead to a condition called De Quervain's Tenosynovitis, or commonly called Mum Thumb or Mummy Hands. But what about Dad's?

What is De Quervain's Tenosynovitis?

Dad Quervain’s is a shooting pain that is often felt at the base of the thumb due to an overuse of the thumb and wrist muscles.
