Editorial: Prices Rise

This week, while out about town, I heard glass prices went up 40%, overnight, gas increases & gas surcharges on parcels, diesel prices and potential shortages, 10%+ increase in food prices, while suppliers struggle with whether the price increases, they must implement, will have serious consequences on future business.

From my experience as a consumer, retailer, and supplier no one enjoys higher prices, yet whether we like it or not it appears we may be in for some of the highest price increases in a month/year, in over 40 years.

Though I have no easy solution to reduce consumer angst as prices increase, here are a few ideas:
  • Attention to customer service - ensure each team member working the floor is clear on how best to explain the reason for price increases and how you are doing everything you can to keep prices as fair as possible,
  • Work with key suppliers - Identify your top sellers in each category – work with suppliers to find ways to minimize price increases on top sellers, generally 2 products/brands in each category, do most sales.
  • Discontinue Slow Sellers – to free up cash and reduce dead weight,
  • Promotions – maintain ongoing promos throughout the store – consistently send money saving specials through social media
  • Use coupons – coupons are still one of best ways to increase retail sales!!
  • Loyalty program – are there ways to adjust your loyalty program to increase value to the consumer, double point days, bonus points specific brands,
  • Reduce Costs – though this should be an ongoing process, during these uncertain times it is even more important you reduce costs, even renegotiate rent as landlords may struggle to find tenants in coming years.
  • Bulk Buy/Zero Waste – signage which shows the savings when buying in bulk or fill your own container
  • Edutainment – ensure the customer has a great shopping experience which educates, inspires, and KEEPS THEM COMING BACK!
  • Good luck!! – as it seems there are no easy solutions for the past 2 + years of chaos, uncertainty and covidiocy, we have and still endure!

The Lies Behind Lab-Cultured Fake Meat

The GMO industry — which is funded, propped up and defended by the tech and chemicalindustries — is now seeking to replace beef, poultry, dairy and fish with synthetic biology, cultured meat, precision fermentation, cellular-based and gene edited foods

Transitioning to cultured meat, made from animal cells grown in a petri dish, is a GreatReset goal for the global food industry. The aim is to control populations by creatingdependence on private companies that control the food supply

The EAT Forum, cofounded by the Wellcome Trust, has developed what they call “ThePlanetary Health Diet,” designed to be applied to the global population. It entails cuttingmeat and dairy intake by up to 90%, and replacing it largely with foods made inlaboratories, along with cereals and oil

Cultured meat (cell-based meat) is produced from animal tissue cells that are grown in fetal bovine serum (FBS) made from the blood of cow fetuses. So, cultured beef relies onthe slaughter of both cows and unborn calves, which are drained of their blood while still alive

Plant-based meat alternatives contain no animal fats, only industrial seed oils that are loaded with linoleic acid (LA). Excessive consumption of LA in the modern diet is already one of the key drivers of chronic disease, and plant-based meat substitutes will only worsen the situation.

Farmers say Health Canada warning labels on ground beef, pork is discriminatory

Stakeholders are baffled by the possibility that processed foods like Snack Pack pudding, Chips Ahoy! cookies and Bear Paws will not require the extra labels.

Canadian cattle farmers and some experts in agriculture fear the federal government won’t budge on a plan to slap nutrition warning labels on certain varieties of ground beef and pork.

They say the looming regulation could have widespread economic and nutritional implications.

As part of the Liberals’ Healthy Eating Strategy, proposed in 2015, Health Canada has been developing a plan to apply warning labels to foods high in saturated fats, sugars and sodium to help consumers make informed, nutritious choices. The department is in the process of finalizing which products will be included, as well as which will be exempted.

Triple Herb Combo May Help Decrease Impact of Stress

When we are under acute or chronic stress, the body over-secretes a hormone called ACTH, which causes the adrenal glands to pump out large amounts of cortisol. High cortisol levels, if left unchecked over a long period of time, can cause inflammation throughout the body, weaken the immune system - increasing the risk of infection and cancer - disturb brain function, contribute to depression and anxiety and other mental health problems and zap your energy.

Three natural herbal agents have shown promise in mitigating the effects of stress on the body by suppressing the over-secretion of stress hormones and exerting positive effects on immune and brain function, include Ashwagandha, Rhodiola and Schisandra.

As part of stress management, it may be prudent to consult a nutritional medicine expert who can direct you to a product containing these three adaptogen herbs if you feel that stress is having a negative impact on your health, productivity and/or quality of life.

Licorice Versus Ulcer Drugs: And the Winner Is. . . .
From the Natural Path Newsletter
by Linda Woolven M.H., R.Ac & Ted Snider

Want to heal your ulcer? Licorice beats the drugs, and, unlike the drugs, it is perfectly safe.

DGL
A special form of licorice root called deglycyrrhizinated licorice, or DGL, is the best ulcer healer there is. Unlike the drugs, licorice heals the ulcer by improving the protective lining of the intestines. It protects them from the acid instead of reducing the needed acid.

Endoscopic examination of people with ulcers reveals that DGL heals the mucosa and, in most cases, actually returns it to normal.

DGL is so effective that in a study of people who were referred for surgery because their ulcers were so severe, 3g of DGL for 8 weeks and 4.5g of DGL for 16 weeks both improved their ulcers so much that none of them required surgery (Practitioner1973;210:820-3).

Better Than Drugs
Licorice has been proven to be as or more effective than ulcer medications in several head-to-head studies. In a study of people with ulcers, 760mg of DGL 3 times a day was as effective as Tagamet (cimetidine) (Gut 1982;23:545-51).

Don’t Let Your Ulcer Come Back
DGL not only heals ulcers, it keeps them healed!

In a head-to-head study, DGL matched Tagamet at preventing ulcers in people with healed ulcers (Gut 1985;26:599-602).

Even better, when 874 people with ulcers were given either DGL, Tagamet or an antacid, 91% of their ulcers healed within 12 weeks with no significant difference between the treatments. But the DGL was best because only 8.2% had relapses compared to 12.9% of the Tagamet group and 16.4% of the antacid group (Irish Med J 1985;78:153-6).

Working in Lots of Ways: H.Pylori
It is now known that one of the leading causes of ulcers is the H. pylori bacteria. H. pylori is causally involved in 80-90% of ulcers. But DGL possesses anti-H. pylori activity (J Drug Chem Toxicol 1998;21:355- 70; Arch Pharmacol Res 2000;23:172-77; J Antimicrob Chemother;2004;54:243-6; Planta Med 2007;73:P104). DGL’s activity against H. pylori comes from several flavonoids that have been shown to inhibit it (Arzneimforsch 1995;45:697- 700). Several of those flavonoids have even been shown to inhibit H. pylori that is resistant to antibiotics (Life Sci 2002;71:1449-63). DGL proved to be significantly better than placebo at eliminating H. pylri in a 60 day study of 100 people (Evid Based Complement Alternat Med 2013;2013:263805).

For some reason, there has been no new research on DGL for a long time. But the studies that have already been published show that DGL has considerable advantages over the much less safe drugs.

Marketing advice for inflationary times

Consumers were already tentative. Now, inflation continues to climb, driving up costs for everything from restaurant meals to electronics. And the vicious cycle of labor shortages and supply chain issues has created product delivery and service challenges for just about every sector. And it’s costing you more just to advertise.

You know the headlines and the marketplace realities they have created. But what should your marketing look like during these turbulent times?

What can you expect during the post-menopause years?

Before we dive into the details, let’s back up and define the 3 stages of the menopausal transition
  1. Perimenopause includes the 7 to 10 years leading up to the end of your menstrual cycles. This time, often from the mid-40s to early 50s, is where many menopausal symptoms occur due to wildly fluctuating estrogen. You may experience irregular cycles, heavy periods, hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, insomnia, and brain fog. Perimenopause is when many women begin use of hormonal support products such as Pueraria Mirifica to help alleviate symptoms.

  2. Menopause is the 1-year mark from your final period, a moment in time.

  3. Post-menopause is the rest of your life. You don’t have your period anymore and can’t get pregnant. Many troublesome symptoms like hot flashes and brain fog begin to subside (thank goodness!). You settle into a new, more stable hormonal landscape. Many women feel more grounded and connected to their true selves.
79 percent of endangered species, including several key pollinator species of bees, butterflies and bats are likely to be harmed by at least one neonicotinoid pesticide, according to a new analysis by the EPA.

Key pollinator populations have dramatically declined over the past 20 years, as neonic usage has skyrocketed. The American bumblebee population has dropped by 89 percent and completely disappeared from eight states. Researchers have been ringing alarm bells about neonics’ impacts on pollinators and children’s health for years.

While the EU has completely banned three of the most concerning neonics, the U.S. has yet to take any action to protect key pollinators, like bees, from harmful neonic pesticides. The EPA must act now to protect bees before it’s too late. We need to know: Will you stand up for bees?

Shawn Buckley

‘I understand these 2 events were last week however thought some of you may like to see what Shawn is up to’ dp

The Canadian Covid Care Alliancewith the help of Preston Manning and other groups, are putting on a three day Citizens Hearing into Canada's Covid-19 Response. We will hear evidence from scientists, legal experts, and health care providers, as well as testimonials from everyday citizens about how Canada's response to Covid-19 impacted their professional and personal lives.

The event will be live streamed. People in Toronto can also book to attend in person.

The NHPPA's Shawn Buckley has been invited to speak on Thursday June 23 at 3:30 pm EDT. Mr. Buckley will be addressing how the drug approval process was changed for the Covid-19 vaccines, so that neither safety nor efficacy had to be proven. Our nation's entire vaccine response was based on the belief the vaccines had to be proven to be safe and effective. Most will be surprised with the truth.

Mr. Buckley will also be participating in a Next Steps Taskforce on Friday June 24 at 1:15 pm EDT. The Taskforce will be discussing how Canadians should proceed, in light of the testimony heard over the three day Hearing.

Please read the flyer about the event below, including instructions on how to access the livestream, by visiting citizenshearing.ca or emailing info@canadiancovidcarealliance.org
