Editorial:
Plant Based Sales do not meat expectations!
Both Maple Leaf foods and Beyond Meat are predicting far lower sales than expected, with layoffs, budget cuts and other actions being taken to help save the business.
I had wondered how long this would take, as Beyond and Impossible were both valued at $10B each just over a year ago. $20B of burgers is a LOT of burgers even if everyone became a vegan, I doubt sales would have satisfied investors.
I believe behind the smokescreen of the recent hype/trend claiming Plant based foods as the answer to all things sustainable, the ‘fake food’ industry and their GMOs, Crispr, Syn-Bio, Lab Cultured foods took further control of the conventional grocery store products, fast food restaurants and institutional food.
It would not surprise me if soon all packaged mainstream food included a dash of gene edited ingredients.
Health Canada, don’t get me started, has ignored any attempt to properly label GMO foods since 1996 and now under the disguise of ‘plant based’, countless new fake food ingredients have entered the market, without preauthorization by Health Canada, as HC allow the food producers to self-regulate, novel, gene edited, ingredients, which have never been part of the human diet.
This is complete and utter ignorance, you can quote me, lol, while at the same time, HC continue to demand further regulations on vitamins, & supplements’ which have had zero deaths in 38 years!
Do artificial foods create an artificial reality? perhaps this may be closer to fact than fiction, lol.
Happy, Healthy, Organic, & Local sales,

A new study found PFAS exposure may be responsible for up to 462,119 cases of childhood obesity, 4.3 million cases of adult obesity and 26,160 cases of couple infertility per year!
In total, PFAS may cost the American people up to $63 billion a year in health care costs and lost productivity. But polluters are still allowed to recklessly dump these toxic chemicals into our air and water. EWG estimates up to 200 million Americans may be drinking PFAS-contaminated tap water.

Natural Help for Long-COVID

Evidence Mounts for an Underappreciated Blood Pressure Herb
You know it very well as a vegetable. But you may never have thought of it as a powerful healing herb. Though its long tradition as a blood pressure herb has attracted little attention, science is finally beginning to take note.
Celery seed has a long tradition as a herb for high blood pressure. In traditional Chinese medicine, celery has long been recommended for lowering blood pressure.
Modern science pretty much ignored celery until a preliminary 2013 study showed that 150mg a day of celery seed extract, standardized for 85% 3-n-butylphthalide, can significantly lower blood pressure in people with mild to moderate high blood pressure ( Natural Medicine Journal 2013;4(4):1-3).
It took almost a decade to follow that lead up. This year, researchers conducted a triple-blind, placebo-controlled study of celery seed extract. The study gave 52 people with high blood pressure either a placebo or 1.34g of celery seed extract a day for 4 weeks. The celery seed extract significantly lowered both systolic and diastolic blood pressure ( Phytother Res. 2022 Jul;36(7):2889-2907.
The same group of researchers has published a second study. Also triple-blind, this study included 51 people with high blood pressure. The study lasted 4 weeks, and the dose was again 1.34g a day of celery seed extract.
Once again, while blood pressure did not change in the placebo group, systolic and diastolic blood pressure both went down significantly in the celery seed group. As a bonus, fasting blood sugar, triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol all improved significantly in the celery seed group as did measures of liver and kidney function.
Interestingly, perhaps because it worked so well, celery seed extract also significantly improved sleep quality by night and sense of relaxation and freshness by day. It led to significantly better breathing and less dizziness.
And a bonus: celery seed extract was safe with no adverse events.
So, take note. Celery seed extract may be an safe, inexpensive and important addition to your blood pressure program.

Stress & Menopausal Hormones
During the perimenopausal transition, estrogen levels fluctuate and eventually decline to a much lower level. Estrogen changes lead to hot flashes, vaginal dryness, mood swings, brain fog, and can impact bone, heart, and urinary tract health.
As if all these downsides to perimenopause aren’t enough, adding stress to the mix, can lead to even lower levels of estrogen and exacerbate symptoms.
The limbic brain – which controls mood and emotion – contains many estrogen receptors. Stress impairs these receptors, leading to more anxiety and depression.
Managing Stress During Perimenopause and Menopause
Our hormones are more sensitive to stress during the perimenopause years. Here are some ideas for easing the transition:
- Prioritize self-care. You’ve likely spent decades caring for others, and menopause is a time to begin putting yourself first.
- Calm the nervous system. Counteract an increased stressed state by prioritizing relaxation. Reading a good book, practicing yoga or tai chi, meditating, and getting a massage are some examples of stress-busting habits.

- Prioritize sleep. Putting healthy sleep habits in place takes stress off the body.
- Try phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogen compounds in Pueraria Mirifica bind to estrogen receptors, modulating the estrogen response.

High LDL-Cholesterol Shown to be an Independent Risk Factor for Alzheimer’s Disease: Large Meta-analysis Study
As reported in Science on July 21, 2022, drugs created thus far to block the formation of beta-amyloid plaque have proven to be very unsuccessful in preventing or treating Alzheimer’s disease. After commenting on the failed clinical trials using these drugs in the publication Neuroscience News (on August 1, 2022), Dr. Henry Paulson MD, PhD., a professor of neurology who directs the Michigan Alzheimer’s Center stated, “there’s plenty of evidence that middle-aged and older adults who want to reduce their risk of dementia or slow its onset, should focus on healthy habits like sleep, nutrition, exercise, social engagement, and controlling blood pressure and cholesterol.
