2017 here we come!

Start the new year right.....

Whether your goal is to run a marathon in 2017 or to feel more comfortable in your skin, putting some thought into how you're going to get there will pay off.  Keep it simple and achievable, then build on a solid foundation.  Stick to these 5 fitness resolutions for success well past January.

1. Drink more water
Carry a 500ml bottle with you everywhere and aim to drink 4 bottles a day, minimum.

2. Get it done in the morning
Get your workout done before you can talk yourself out of it.

3. Plan your training and stick to it
Use a diary, plan your week and tick it off as you go.  If you are unable to get to a workout, move it to another opening in the week.

4. Rest is crucial
Sleep and rest is crucial for our bodies to renew and recharge

5. Eat all the colours
Ensure you are receiving a great variety of nutrients by eating a rainbow.  Read the fact sheet for more nutrition tips from Nutrition Australia :  Rainbow fact sheet

Summer Protein Balls

Warm weather, summertime. No better time than now to focus on nutrition and healthy habits.  With some easy summer recipes under your belt there are no excuses not to eat well.
Leigh from our run club brought along some AMAZING protein balls to training and we were hooked!! She has generously shared her recipe and photo with us.  Thank you Leigh xx

Date and Almond Balls
3 cups coarsely chopped Trident Dates
3 teaspoons finely grated orange rind
1 cup blanched almonds toasted
1 tablespoon honey
¼ teaspoon ground Cardamom
¼ teaspoon ground Cinnamon
¼ desiccated coconut

Place all ingredients, except coconut, a large bowl, mix to combine. Using a food processor, process mixture in batches until forms (small almond pieces are still visible). Make sure the mixture is still sticking together like dough.
Using a tablespoon grab the mixture and roll into a ball on a chopping board.
Roll balls into coconut.
Store in an airtight container.
Place in the fridge.

This mix makes about 15 balls depending on the size.
Can add a teaspoon cacao powder for flavour.
