July News

What a chilly month we've had!! July commenced with a few of us escaping the cold and flying up to Queensland for the Gold Coast Half and Full Marathons. Read our full recap below. 
August will see a new Challenge month.  Jump on to the Challenge page to join.  As well as daily exercises, we will again cut sugar, cut alcohol and I have added a meat free day per week.  More info below.
The lovely Clarissa also shares her training journey story with us this month.

Congratulations to Eliza for completing her first Parkrun this month! She completed the 5km race in 33:28 without even stopping for a walk break.  A goal she has set for herself and achieved.  I forecast a new lover of Parkruns right here!

Our Client of the Month - Clarissa

         

"Wow Manal I have been training with you for six years – I can’t quite believe it! I love the training as no session is ever the same and you are always positive and very supportive. The group sessions are always great fun, with you getting the best out of the individuals and the group,  but with lots of laughter along the way.

Admittedly,  I don't laugh quite as hard when I hear Manal say the the word burpee / quick lap of the park,  or the time I received a text just to let me know she has something different planned…OMG before I knew it… I found myself running a very slow 5kms. Manal has always insisted that I could run and I kept telling her I am no runner but of course she had to have the last word. I am sure her next instalment for me is the park run or the full length of the bay run... watch this space, I am sure she will have the last word again"



Thank you Clarissa!!  Yes my last word is that you are a natural athlete and I can't wait to get you to our local Parkrun!!  It's babysteps for you so don't worry - it's not next week, but soon!!!  You're always a ray of sunshine in our sessions. Love your smile and gorgeous positive attitude - even when doing burpees!... Manal xx
The Gold Coast Marathon and Half Marathon 1st July 2018

On the 30th of June Sydney airport was filled with either runners heading to the Gold Coast Airport Marathon or Logies celebrities!! The buzz was exciting with big races the next day mixed with paparazzi. I have raced this event many times however for some reason this year had an element of fun outdoing other years.  For myself the Half Marathon (21.1km's) was my first big race coming back from injury - so I was nervous.  I was also nervous for my clients racing.  Jenny was attempting her first ever Half Marathon, Carolyn was after a Personal Best (after racing last year unwell) and Emma was racing the big one - the Full Marathon, also striving for a faster time. The girls each share their stories below....
Jenny
Jenny has trained for this Half since February, after only racing 5km parkruns and the odd fun run, we discussed a plan and put it to action - complete a Half Marathon and complete it strong.  In her words "The experience was great, even though it didn’t turn out as I had hoped.  So many thoughts during the race -  from '"this is great, to ""what on earth am I doing,"and  "why am I doing this again?""  However crossing that finish line was awesome!!   Anyways, I’ve signed up for another already”

Carolyn
Carolyn raced the Gold Coast Half in 2017 battling a flu.This year she returned feeling determined, well and prepared..
."Training for and participating in a Half Marathon pushes me well and truly outside of my comfort zone - both physically and mentally. But it is so rewarding to have achieved it and I learn something about myself with each one I do. The best part, the training and celebrating with my running friends 😀"

Emma
Emma trains for strength in her personal training sessions. She is an experienced runner and also trains with a triathlon club on the Bay. In her words, "Gold Coast was my fourth marathon and my training wasn't ideal so despite a hamstring injury I kept training and thought I'd give it a go! It was humid and tough...I decided by the half mark to either hate the rest of the race and chase a PB and push ahead or have fun and let go and just remember why I love running! I finished it and am proud"  With a time of 4 hours and 23 minutes Emma did an amazing job, chose to enjoy her run and had a great night of dancing to celebrate!!

Personally I completed the race, in good time (102 minutes) certainly not a personal best, but a comeback after 5 months of hip rehabilitation.  An absolute confidence builder for races to come and speed to improve. We also danced and celebrated the evening of the races till our race blisters formed new blisters!!  An awesome weekend which will be repeated..

Congratulations again to my girls - you make me the proudest trainer ever!! xx


 


 

Our next Challenge round begins August 1

The AUGUST CHALLENGE is only days away! I have put together your daily workouts which I’ll share on the Challenge page. August sees an ABDOMINAL focus!  This coming Challenge we will CUT SUGAR, CUT ALCOHOL and we will have ONE MEAT FREE DAY PER WEEK. Why go meat free? Cutting back meat consumption once a week has so many benefits: your health, budget, animal welfare, global hunger and the environment. I have been 100% meat free for over 6 years and now Vegan for a few months. I will guide you through your day with lots of yummy options and balanced meal ideas. 
This Challenge will get you ready for the warmer weather and shedding the layers. You’ll feel better, stronger and feel good about leaving a smaller carbon footprint ❤️ Get ready!!
