February News

February almost over and we've been sugar free and alcohol free for almost a month.  It's certainly been an adjustment but well worth it.  Over 20 of us have participated in the February Challenge.  Next month we'll hear from some of our participants and their results.  Personally I found dropping sugar the hardest.

Stair Workout


Workout: Set timer to 30 minutes.

1 set of stairs, 10 jump squats
1 set of stairs , 10 burpees
1 set of stairs, 10 push ups
1 set of stairs, 10 sit ups

Repeat for 30 minutes and note how many rounds you get through.

Repeat session weekly to measure improvement!!

"It was almost three years ago, that I accepted the kind invitation from Manal to join a group session.  As I struggled through, I had little comprehension of the journey that lay ahead of me, and how much I would enjoy it.  I couldn’t balance, I couldn’t catch without flinching, I could barely run, and I couldn’t do the jump-out part of a burpee without having to add in a little step in the middle.  I also couldn’t sit down for a week without sounding like and arthritic geriatric.  However, I was soon hooked. 
 
Manal has skillfully created a supportive environment where boredom isn’t an option, and where the only competition is within yourself.  It’s all encompassing, inclusive and completely addictive.  I look forward to sessions with the enthusiasm of a child, and suffer withdrawals when she is away.  In group sessions, we’re surrounded by the most quirky and supportive group of self-depreciative misfits this side of Parramatta Road.  Pretending they’re reluctant participants, their passion and commitment to their health and fitness goals is contagious.  I have always felt welcomed and encouraged by these amazing women, whom I now call friends. 
 
I couldn’t tell you how much weight I have lost, but I know how I feel.  I have found a strength and vitality that I have never known was possible, I have muscles in my arms I didn’t know existed, and I can run the whole star without stopping!  I feel super human and, at times delirious, and I owe it all to Manal."

Megan's Raw Banana Bread

Thank you Megan for helping me out with so many sugar free recipes during the challenge! Here's one that came in handy when we craved that sweet fix!
 
Raw Banana Bread

Dry ingredients:
1/2 cup coconut flour
1/2 cup almond flour / meal
1/2 tsp Himalayan salt 1 tbsp baking soda
Wet Ingredients:
2 over ripe bananas
6 medjool dates
6 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 cup coconut oil melted
1/4 cup rice malt syrup
1/4 cup almond milk
1/4 cup Greek yogurt

1. Preheat oven to 160 degrees and line a lid tray.
2. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl.
3. In a food processor, combine bananas and dates until a smooth paste.
4. Add the rest of wet ingredients to the food processor, careful not to over mix it.
5. Add the dry ingredients into the food processor. Then lightly combine with wet ingredients.
6. Pour mixture into the loaf tray and bake for 1 hour and 20 minutes, or until cooked through.

Optional: add silvered almonds in to mixture and stir at the end of step 5. But stir with a wooden spoon and not the food processor.



Megan went "low sugar"a decade ago and has never looked back.  She is a keen cook and modifies recipes to eat clean and train hard!
