January Report

As the new year begins, Payroll and Human Resources continue to iron out the wrinkles of the "Salary Increase Distribution Errors" and we await answers to information requests from Mercer for the Staff Compensation Study in Spring of 2015. Human Resources stated, "We know that this study has taken much longer than expected and that many of your jobs have changed since the study began. We want to reassure you that there will be a process that allows you to review the job family and job grade assigned to your position to ensure that it reflects your current position accurately." Once our requests have been answered we will work will the college to begin moving forward with the next steps.

Breakfast Brief

On December 2nd, the staff had the opportunity to talk to the new Vice Provost for Digital Learning at Columbia College Chicago, Robert Green. Some topics discussed:
  • Team is moving off of moodle to canvas. Managing Canvas is not their primary mission however they will be using Canvas as the tool to create online courses.
  • Developing on LMS system (Canvas) to
    • create new stream of revenue (i.e. adult continuing education)
    • online classes: will start with individual classes not programs and move from there.
    • offer online training for faculty and staff (CITE)
  • Open to suggestions from faculty regarding online courses  but they are looking to hire marketing researcher to make sure classes are viable on the online platform.
  • Compensation for faculty to help create online courses.
  • Staff suggestions:
    • create faculty buy in ( review faculty during and after)
    • have at risk reporting for students before withdrawal
    • have classes be affordable --> create incentive
