Hi <<First Name>>

Kia ora and welcome to the latest news from NZ Textile Experiences offering Fibre and Textile workshops in the beautiful regions of Nelson and Tasman.  Workshops run mostly at our tutors own creative spaces throughout the year with clusters of workshops often coinciding with other local creative and festive events.

Nelson is renowned for its vibrant creative buzz over spring and summer, here are a few event worth knowing about  >>>

The Nelson Great Christmas Market  20th November at Founders Park 10am - 4pm

Mapua Makers Market 4th December 10 - 3pm in the Mapua Community Hall

If you are considering entering or visiting Nelson to view the annual national Changing Threads Contemporary Fibre Art Awards the dates are 4th - 25th March 2017.  This national exhibition showcases Contemporary New Zealand Fibre & Textile Arts at The Refinery Artspace attracting entries that continue to challenge the interpretation of fibre and textile art.

If being creative for you includes dancing then Summer Tango in Nelson is a really fun event 10 - 12 March 2017 which could easily work in with attending a Fibre and Textile workshop or two.

Fabricate Magazine  is a brand new publication celebrating all things textile.   It aspires to inform and inspire with features highlighting New Zealand artists and artisans working to push the boundaries, or preserve traditions and skills.  Felt, weave, spin, knit, knot, stitch, crochet, piece, sew, quilt or embroider – published quarterly the magazine will explore products, resources and education, tours, events and exhibitions and much more……  sales and subscriptions are direct from the editor Cait McLennan Whyte at mailto:fabricate@ihug.co.nz?subject=Fabricate%20Magazine%20Inquiry or selected stockists including Page and Blackmores in Nelson and facebook.com /fabricatemag/    Summer issue out early December.

RECENT WORKSHOPS
Last Saturday Karuna tutored her one day Weave your own Sampler Workshop, a fabulous opportunity to be introduced to the fundamentals of weaving on a floor loom.  Karuna is a fabulous colourist, with great design tips to share, encouraging students to experiment with new combinations.

Students choose their own colour palette and woven patterns to create a sampler that looks great displayed as a wall piece or constructed later into a small bag or cushion.

Here's Debbie experimenting with her newly found weaving skills at last Saturday's Weave Your Own Sampler workshop.

Twill Textiles Studio
Karuna is an experienced tutor and highly talented weaver,  just being in her wonderful workshop environment is inspirational enough to want to be creative with colour and texture.

The Weave Your Own Fabric Sampler one-day Saturday workshops are coming up again in 2017 starting on 14th January.
The next Small Loom Weaving workshop with Karuna will be offered again on Saturday 10th December.

Beginners are most welcome, please book early to secure your place.
Felt Making
NZ Textile Experiences tutor Colleen Plank has had her felted sculpture vessel "Hold Me"  accepted into the 10th International Shibori Symposium exhibition in Oaxaca, Mexico.  Exhibitors were asked to submit a work that expressed their "Land, Culture, and People”  using Shibori or Ikat textile techniques.
