Looking Back on 2022: Our Year in Review

It’s hard to believe that we’re nearing the end of 2022. Over the last 12 months, we’ve engaged churches, campus ministries, youth groups, and college students. We have conducted 10 different Cultural Encounter Experiences, hosted a missions trip for Christian School, put on an outreach event in Clarkston, started an outreach ministry to Afghans in Nashville, and spent hundreds of hours doing ministry alongside partners in both Atlanta and Nashville.

We have trained and sent nine students led by four staff members on two G.O. teams, one to Egypt and one to an undisclosed location in the Middle East.

We have also trained and sent five Summer Serve interns, who served in Zambia, Mozambique, Ireland, and Greece. We also trained and sent a Mission Corp Ministry Resident who has served all year in Birmingham, England.

We have trained five Gap Year students and will send four to Germany this coming Spring. This was our initial launch of our Gap Year Program which consisted of a 15-week Global Training Semester covering four topics: Character and Calling, Evangelism and Discipleship, Cross-Cultural Understanding and Communication, and Leadership and Team Dynamics.

This year, as of December 9th, our student missionaries have raised $106,802.38 in order to serve overseas. As an organization, have received $348,410.65 in giving toward our General Fund. And our staff has raised $130,172.28 in personal support in order to serve on our team.

Glory to God!

I am most grateful to be able to write to you that we have stayed true to our mission - to train and send the next generation to take the gospel to the nations. Our passion is to not only mobilize high school and college students, but to encourage the church to see the opportunities that are before us to reach the world!

Of course, we could not have done this without our partners! Our strategy has been straightforward: to prepare students for cross-cultural ministry, partner in Gospel work with local churches and like-minded mission organizations, and place the next generation on the global field to meaningfully serve in the advancement of God’s kingdom. Partnership with missions organizations remains the crucial link in our strategy. We are grateful for the opportunities that our partners have provided us and the faithful encouragement that the fellow mobilizers, trainers, and missionaries have given us along the way!

But, I do not believe any of this would have been accomplished apart from the faithful prayers that have been made by the friends of this ministry. Your prayers for our staff, mission teams, board, and for our partners has been the means through which God has worked in and through us in 2022. I believe, as does everyone at SALT Next Gen, that prayer will be the way God's work gets done in 2023 as well.

Looking Forward to 2023: How to Pray

As incredible as 2022 has been, we believe that our best days are ahead of us in 2023! By the grace of God, we have even more opportunities for students to be trained and sent to the nations. Our Partnership Network of churches is growing and our Ministry Partnerships with missions organizations are deepening.

Will you pray with us as we seek to accomplish the following ministry goals this coming year?

Advance Teams (High School)

  • London: We have already joined forces with a church to train and send 30-50 of their high school seniors to serve in London, England this summer!
  • Nashville: We are presently working with a church that wants to bring students from their youth group to serve here in Nashville during Spring Break.
  • Atlanta: We are also in the planning stages with two different churches on having their students do a missions week in Clarkston, Georgia with our staff leaders, Blake and Makennah.

Gap Year (HS and College)

  • 2022-2023: We will send our four Gap Year students (Rufus, Ava, Rayna, and Isa) to Berlin this Spring to serve for three months as ministry interns in an international church in the city.
  • 2023-2024: We already have one student who has applied for next year's Gap Year Program and one or two more who have expressed an interest. Pray that we will recruit a team of 6-8 students for the 2023-2024 Gap Year Program!

G.O. Teams (College)

  • Japan: We are excited to already have two students who have applied for our team that's going to Japan in June (June 12-26)! We only have four spots available. So if those students are accepted onto the team, we will only have two spots left! Pray we would get a couple of young men signed up for this trip as the two who have applied are young ladies.
  • Nicaragua, Egypt, and the Middle East: We are excited to return to Nicaragua (June 13-21) and are looking for a team of 8-12 students who will help us put on several Cola War events in and around Managua. We are also looking for 8-12 students for return trips to  Egypt (June 9-19) and to an undisclosed location in the Middle East (July 16-24). Both trips offer student an incredible, life-changing look into ministry in the Muslim world.
  • South Asia: As with Japan, our GO Team to South Asia (dates TBD) provides us with a new location for helping students to catch a vision for one of the hardest to reach places on the planet. We only have a spots for 5-10 students for this summer's GO Team which will give students the opportunity to encounter a region saturated with lostness and unreached people groups.

Summer Serve (College)

  • Overseas: We are looking to send summer interns back to England, Ireland, and Greece this summer. But we also have opportunities for students to serve in Thailand, Middle East, North Africa, and locations in two South Asian countries. Praise the Lord that we have already recruited and accepted two young ladies to serve in one of those South Asian countries this summer!
  • Stateside: In addition to overseas summer internships, we are excited to launch Stateside summer internships this year! We can take interns in both our Atlanta and Nashville locations. Summer interns will be mainly tasked with helping us maintain our outreach to the refugee communities in both places. They will also help serve as staff for high school teams that serve. We potentially have one intern already lined up to serve this summer in Nashville. But we would love to engage several more students as well.

Mission Corp (College/Post-College)

  • We have had one student in this program this year. He ends his term this month. But we would love to recruit more Mission Corp students this year! Pray that we would find students who are nearing the end of their undergrad careers and/or who are looking for opportunities to serve after graduation for one to three years overseas.
  • One of the features of our Mission Corp program going forward is that we will bring students first to Nashville to go through our Global Worker Training prior to their overseas deployment. Our commitment to in-depth training makes our program unique among other similar programs. Pray for us to recruit one or two Mission Corp students this year. We have opportunities for longer-term service in places such as England, Zambia, Middle East, Nicaragua, Mozambique, and North Africa to name a few.

Our Year-End Campaign

Our recent Giving Tuesday campaign raised $12,995. Every dollar of this was matched and doubled through the generosity of a donor - meaning that we raised a total of $25,990.

This has only encouraged our donor to extend this very gracious offer till the end of 2022!

As this year winds down, will you consider giving to our Year-End Campaign? Your gift will be matched - up to $50,000! Funds raised will go toward our operating expenses. These expenses help us "keep the lights on", pay our staff, and fund our mission. Every dollar matters.

Our Year-End Campaign goal is $100,000. We have Giving Tuesday funds to add to this. So please prayerfully consider how you might give and help us continue to train and send the next generation to the nations!

Remember that your gift is tax-deductible as we are a 501(c)3 charitable organization! Give now and receive a tax deduction toward your 2022 income taxes.
