Hello Church Family,

I pray that you are doing well and growing as a disciple of Jesus.  You may remember that I shared about the Bible reading plan that we are utilizing as a church in conjunction with our OSL program.  We produced bookmarks that show what you need to read each day in order to finish the Old Testament once and the New Testament twice in a year.  Today we read Acts chapter 5 which is interesting to say the least.  However, there is a passage that stood out to me as I was journaling this morning and I would like to share it with you;

Acts 5:29 - "But Peter and the apostles answered, 'We must obey God rather than men."

In this passage, Peter and some of the apostles had been imprisoned for sharing their faith.  During the night, an angel of the Lord released them from prison and the very next day they went about preaching openly in the temple courts.  The religious leaders had their guards bring the apostles in front of them where they commanded them not to teach in the name of Jesus to which they replied "we must obey God rather than men."  Wow.  This is just incredible to me.  In the face of unknown persecution (maybe even death), the apostles didn't waver in sharing the truth of Jesus Christ.

The apostles were given a choice.  You can obey the words of Jesus (preach the Gospel and make disciples - Matt 28/John 20/Mark 16) or you can obey the words of men (don't share about Jesus or in the name of Jesus and no harm will come to you).  The simple fact in all of this is that we all will obey the voice of someone.  This last weekend we had our Missions fair as we heard testimonies from those in our church and beyond who are serving Jesus in one way or another.  What a great example and encouragement that it was for all of us to continue to obey the words of Jesus by sharing what we know, giving what we have and going where He is calling us.  I thank God that we are a church ON MISSION to bring Jesus to people and people to Jesus.

Let me quickly remind you that tonight (wed the 29th) we are having our first OFF THE RECORD gathering in the auditorium at 7pm.  I would love for you to join me as I share my heart about various things as well as opening up a time for Q and A.  If you have questions that you would like me to address but you don't want to ask them in the microphone, you can email me in response to this email and I will do my best to address them tonight.  We will also have the ability to text in questions during our gathering as well.  Again, we are meeting tonight at 7pm so I hope to see you there!

May God bless you as we seek to obey Him with all of our heart!
