Hello Church Family,

As you may recall, this last weekend we officially kicked off the "Advent" season during our services.  Every year as a church we celebrate the Advent season in preparation for Christmas.  The word "Advent" means "coming" and we see this tradition as a beautiful reminder for us to prepare our hearts, homes and church for a true celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

During our services we have the Advent wreath on our stage which contains five candles.  Every week we will light a candle representing an aspect of what the coming of Jesus brought and continues to bring into our lives as we follow Him.  This last week we lit the 'hope' candle as we declared that Jesus Christ is the hope of the world.  Let me remind you of the beautiful lyrics from an old hymn written in 1834 "our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness."  When we put all of our hope in Christ we are not merely looking toward temporary things because what He came to bring is eternal.  This means that no matter what our tomorrow holds we will be okay, because we know the One who holds our tomorrow.  This is real Hope.

Let me encourage you to watch some of the Bible Project videos regarding Advent.  I have been rather impressed with what they do and I think these videos are very helpful for learning.  Here is the Bible Project video for HOPE.

While we are talking about Christmas, let me remind you that we have 3 Christmas Eve services this year.  On December 24th we will have services at 3, 5, and 7pm.  I have found that Christmas Eve services are a great time to invite a friend or family member to church.  We all need community and so many around us are hurting even more because they are walking this life alone.  Let's pray for, invite and welcome new people into our community this Christmas as we celebrate the love of Jesus for us all.

I am looking forward to being with you this weekend as we worship Jesus, learn from His Word and minister to one another.  If I haven't met you then I truly look forward to doing so in person or feel free to send me a message in response to this email.  I am praying for your regularly with great expectation of what God will do in and through the people of Northwest Church.  God bless you!
"This is the day which the LORD has made;
Let us rejoice and be glad in it." - Psalm 118:24
