SCAPE SELECTED FOR THE
WOMEN'S BUILDING
We are pleased to announce SCAPE has been selected by the NoVo Foundation and Lela Goren Group to develop the landscape design for The Women’s Building in Chelsea, New York City.
The Women's Building seeks to redefine a former women’s correctional facility into a central hub for organizations dedicated to women-focused programming and activism within the community and around the world. The program is currently being defined in collaboration with leaders specializing in the field of women’s rights, gender equality rights, and indigenous cultures.
SCAPE will design an immersive, transformational green space in the central courtyard and two roof terraces on the historic building and two additional roof terraces for a new 16-story annex building designed by Deborah Burke Partners. Each landscape will promote welcoming, productive spaces for gathering, co-working, and learning. The design process will be inspired by the building’s past histories as a YMCA hotel and a women’s correctional facility.

LIVING BREAKWATERS
30% DESIGN SUBMISSION
SCAPE's Living Breakwaters project recently completed a major project milestone completing the 30% design documents submission. With this milestone, there is much to share about the project with feedback from agencies, organizations and stakeholders to inform the next stage of design development. Looking forward to 2017, this means the project will move into 60% design and ultimately final design with the aim of meeting out goal and going into construction in 2018.
Living Breakwaters recap:
The Draft Environmental Impact Statement will be released in the first quarter of 2017, so check back for more information and opportunities to attend public events and provide input on the project.

MEET THE TEAM: CHRIS BARNES
Role: Senior Associate
Years at SCAPE: 3
Current projects: New York Presbyterian and Columbia University Medical Campus Master Plan, Red Hoek Point.
Favorite landscape: The glorious banks of the Amite River.
Recent built work: One of the most satisfying aspects of my role at SCAPE has been seeing a design idea come to life with the recent implementation of the NYP & Columbia University Medical Campus Master Plan. It has been a nearly three year process, tracing the design evolution from the inspired concepts, to concise constructed elements, to finally a tangible landscape. For me it is especially satisfying to provide well-needed respite to patients and supporting family members going through difficult times.
