TAMPA, FL, November 1, 2022:
This Giving Tuesday, the U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking (USIAHT) is inspiring generosity by empowering people to fight human trafficking in their cities.
“We believe that human beings should not be for sale,” says Chief Strategy Officer Sara LaChance. “This is an important opportunity for anyone to join the fight, not only in giving financially but in giving time to share about the problem and become an advocate.”
USIAHT has undergone a rebrand in 2022: their goal is to combat the consumer demand for purchased sex in the United States by creating nationwide Trafficking Free Zones, educating the public about the issue, providing help to victims and survivors, and empowering volunteer abolitionists to take a stand in their communities. The money they raise for Giving Tuesday will help provide victim resources in Tampa Bay and USIAHT partner cities.
Giving Tuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past ten years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
Giving Tuesday has raised billions of dollars for critical causes around the world and gets 21 billion impressions on social media from people and organizations speaking up for the causes that matter to them and encouraging others to get involved in their communities.
“We are excited to be participating in this national movement,” says Kevin Malone, former Los Angeles Dodgers General Manager and Co-Founder and CEO of USIAHT. “Nothing is more pressing in this country than the fight to keep innocent people, especially girls and boys, from being raped. Paying to have sex with a minor is rape and unconscionable!”
