Zara's Center Newsletter
May 2017

Dear Friends of Zara's Center,

Over the past two months, Zara's has continued to provide life-saving and enriching programming to the young people we serve.

In addition to recent photos and updates, this month's newsletter features two of Zara's alumni, Peacemaker N. and Ayama D.  Both have been accepted into university and will be starting in August. Acceptance into university is a huge accomplishment for any young person, but especially for the children at our Center. We know Peacemaker and Ayama will excel and Zara's will continue to support them along the way. We couldn't be prouder.

There are still spaces available on Team Zara for the 2017 NYC Marathon. Runners receive guaranteed entry into the Marathon and fundraise for Zara's Center. If you're interested in running with us, please email me at

I hope you enjoy the photos and updates below.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Zara's Center Updates
Earlier this month, Zara's Executive Director, Gibson Connick, and staff member Rebecca Gopito, attended a two week training with Lalela in South Africa to learn how to implement an innovative arts curriculum.
Lalela uses the arts to boost children's self-confidence and inspire creative thinking. Mr. Connick will begin incorporating Lalela's curriculum into Zara's programs in August. We have high hopes that Lalela's program will have a positive impact on our children.
Zara's is pleased to announce a newly formed Advisory Committee. We know our Committee members will provide valuable insight and guidance as we work to improve Zara's programming. To learn more about Zara's Advisory Committee members, visit our website.

Introducing: Zara's Alumni

Ayama D.

"My name is Ayama and I am a young ambitious lady with high set goals in life. With financial help from Zara's Center, I was able to sit for my A Level examinations and passed. I will be beginning University at NUST in August, where I will be working towards a degree in Quantity Surveying.

Zara's Center's assistance motivated me to work at school with determination. I know that through perseverance and excellence, being a quantity surveyor will be a realistic and achievable goal. My wish is to one day study outside of Zimbabwe."

Peacemaker N.

"My name is Peacemaker and I am 19 years old. I will be starting at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in August 2017, where I will be pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce Honors degree in Finance.

Zara's Center helped me get accepted into a three month course in Forex Trading before University begins in August. I hope to implement what I'm learning in this course with my Finance degree.

My dream is that one day I become the most successful person, not just in my country but also in my family. I want to study until I reach the highest title in education, so that one day I can be a professor. Thats why every opportunity I have to learn I grab it with both hands."
