Stories that Soar! Performance

Mark your calendar, the cast of Stories that Soar! will be at Sam Hughes on Friday, November 8. The performance will be in our courtyard at 9 am. Family and friends are welcome to enjoy the performance- be sure to bring chairs or blankets to sit on!
The cast of actors will be performing stories written by the students of Sam Hughes! It is so exciting to watch the students discover that their story is being brought to life!
You definitely want to attend this event!

Student Artwork Fundraiser

Our Huskies worked hard to make masterpieces.  We hope you will considering purchasing an item with their artwork on it.  This fundraiser directly supports the cost of Stories that Soar!  Our students love this program!  It encourages writing and creativity.  Help us keep this program at Sam Hughes! Paper orders are due November 8th.  Online orders are due November 20th.

Parking Reminder

Please be aware of the parking restrictions on the streets surrounding our school. There are areas where permits are required. Also, we have heard from our neighbors that driveways and garages are being blocked during morning drop off and afternoon pick up.
Please be sure to follow all parking restrictions and keep driveways, allies, and garages clear.
Thank you for being CREW!

1) We continue to have fun in our OMA CLASSES.  We are about to start learning all our fun songs for OMAPalooza!  Look for links to music to practice at home and lyric sheets 🙂 in upcoming newsletters.
2) CHOIR is also starting new songs for the holiday season!

4) RECORDER kiddos!  We have been testing for yellow and orange belts!  After this point the music gets a little more challenging!  Please Encourage your child to practice - just 10 minutes (3-5 times a week) is a really great start.  Anything more than that is excellent! 🙂  LOG YOUR PRACTICE and get KUDOS!

3) BAND and ORCHESTRA We are working on our 3rd and 4th levels - to earn our stickers as well! 🙂 Practice practice practice please!
    a) PLEASE remember to bring your instruments on your assigned day (T/TH for 4th grade and W/F for 5th)  I do not have extra instruments - especially in band!!  Sometimes I do, but the idea is for kiddos to be responsible.  If your child forgets three times, then I ask that the instrument stay at school for a while.  Thank you for your help!
     b) Please remember to CARE for the instruments.
     c)  Please PLAY WITH and PRACTICE your instrument!!  Having these wonderful instruments at home and not practicing them is like having a fun friend around that you never bring out to play. 🙁
**And remember: LOGGING practice and getting parent signatures gets KUDOS for your kiddo!!
     d)  GASCHO HELP: Does your child need some extra help on his/her instrument? I am available every Wed, Thurs and Fri morning from 8-8:30am to work with your child if they are struggling.   OR... if they are wanting a challenge, I can also move them ahead if they are ready to move beyond what we do in our short time in class together!  :) Thank you!  and it's FREE!!  yippee!

4) TALENT SHOWCASE - Is your child interested in sharing a special talent they have with the school?  Start thinking about participating in our ANNUAL TALENT SHOWCASE! (Takes place at the end of Jan/early Feb)  Packets for trying out for the showcase will be out by the end of NOV - packets need to be filled out BEFORE YOU LEAVE FOR WINTER BREAK!

5) OMAPalooza is in December!  Mark your calendar!  Tues Dec 17 at 3:30pm in the courtyard. You don't want to miss this awesome culmination of the semester in OMA!  Every grade level is featured and every student is involved.  We even feature several songs where everyone in the school sings together.  yay!
The Student Council is doing a coin drive call Pennies for Patriots.  We are asking students to bring in change to donate to a charity called Jeans for Troops.

Spirit week is the week of the 4th.  We decided to pair each spirit week day with a charity.

Nov. 4 - CREW day - wear your crew shirt and help the school (clean up, write kindness notes etc)
Nov. 5 - Decades Day - dress up like a certain decade and bring in clothes for the clothing bank
Nov. 6 - Wacky Wednesday -  crazy hair and clothes and bring detergent for the clothing bank
Nov. 7- Jeans/Patriotic day - wear jeans and a patriotic shirt also collecting more change and $5 for Jeans for Troops
Nov. 8 – Fancy Friday - dress up and bring in top 5 needed items for the food bank.

XS, S, M & L.  They are $10.  You can purchase one by bringing in money in a sealed envelope with your child's name, teacher's name, and size of shirt listed on it.  Please place the envelope in the silver PTA box (by the front door) or hand it to your child's teacher.  We have a limited quantity of Adult shirts available as well! Remember, CREW shirts are our uniform during field trips!
Did you know Sam Hughes runs on Tax Credit Contributions?  We need to raise at least $96,000 a year to keep all our enrichment curriculum, such as, OMA, P.E., Gardening, Reading Tutors, etc.

Can we get at least 75% of our school families to contribute this year? It would help us reach our goal.  Last year we did reach our goal.  Let's make this year great!  You can contribute small amounts monthly, you can contribute up until the tax deadline (choose 2019 as the year).  Your contributions make Sam Hughes an amazing elementary school.
