Hello CREW!

We are closing out our 3rd week of this remote learning journey! I want to thank both the Sam Hughes Staff and all of our families for collaborating to make these three weeks so successful. Together we can accomplish so much! Thank you for your continued support and patience as we work through virtual learning. We are one amazing community- we are CREW!


As a staff and faculty, we have been analyzing and reflecting on how our instructional schedule is working and we have decided to make a revision to the current schedule. We will be transitioning the start time of Session # 1 from 8:35 AM to 9:00 AM. This change will allow our teachers to add additional Office Hours in the morning. Teachers will be available starting at 8:35 AM and students will join their class meeting ready to learn at 9:00 AM.


This change will start Monday, August 31st. Please see the revised schedule below:

Synchronous (Live) Zoom Session #1

9:45AM – 10:15AM

Morning Break

10:15AM – 11:00AM

Synchronous (Live) Zoom Session # 2

Asynchronous Work* and Lunch Break


*Each day students will be given assignments and learning activities to complete during this time (i.e. handwriting, typing practice, art, physical activity, answering writing prompts, etc.)

90 Years:

This year the Site Council will need three new parent members, as a few graduated with their 5th graders last year.

Being a part of Site  Council is an excellent way to be part of the informative and decision-making processes at the school, and parent members provide a voice for all the other parents.  Holding a seat is an excellent way to support our community.

The seat is a two-year commitment.  That said, parents of 5th graders certainly are welcome to join as well.  

One commitment to bear in mind is the taking of minutes.  This is a parent-held responsibility, so it is helpful if you have a laptop and feel comfortable typing the minutes.  (They do not have to be perfect; they can be cleaned up later, and aren't "due" for 72 hours.)

We generally meet on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 4:00 until about 5:00.  Some meetings, (the budget meeting, for example), may go longer.

Our next meeting is in October, and we don't have a December meeting.  We post notice of all meetings in advance--all are welcome.  For now, meeting will be held via ZOOM.

If you are interested in joining Site Council, please contact Ms. Barry, as she is our Facilitator this year.  Or me, as I facilitated last year and am helping her with the transition.
