CREW Staffing Updates
o    Office Manager:
Prior to the closure, Ms. Kate, our Office Manager, resigned from her position. In early April, we engaged in the hiring process (via ZOOM) and had many qualified candidates. I am happy to announce that Ms. Ilyssa Beckwith has been hired to be our new Office Manager! We are excited to have someone that is so dedicated to serving the Sam Hughes Community!

o    Farewell to Mrs. Harris:
After 8 years of teaching at Sam Hughes, Mrs. Harris will be leaving our CREW; she is moving out of state to be closer to family. We will miss her dearly and wish her nothing but the best in her new adventures! Once CREW, always CREW! She promises to come back to visit!

o   New 3rd Grade Teacher:
Due to the fact that Mrs. Harris is moving, we had a vacancy in our teaching staff. We had over 50 candidates apply for the position! Through the interview process, we were able to find a candidate that is truly a perfect fit for our CREW. I would like to welcome Mrs. Denise Cota-Rodriguez to our Teacher CREW! Mrs. Cota-Rodriguez will be teaching 3rd Grade next year. She is familiar with our community, as she has been a parent of one of our students for the past two years. She is coming to us with a wealth of teaching experience and we are so excited for her to be a member of the CREW! Welcome to Sam Hughes Mrs. Cota-Rodriguez!

Online Resources
o    Many of the wonderful online resources that our students have been engaged with during the closure will be available through June 30th. Please feel free to continue to log on and use these resources.

o    Special Message about additional Resources:
Dear Sam Hughes Families:
Learning A - Z has very generously added some services to your child's account--free of charge.  Writing A - Z and other services are now on all accounts and ready to go through August 7th.  Reading A - Z (Raz Kids) is paid for by our wonderful PTA and that service will continue through September.  We hope your children are able to enjoy the sites for additional support throughout the summer; they are excellent and fun learning materials.

Even though we are apart, we are CREW!

Thank you,

Kathryn Bolasky
Hello Sam Hughes CREW!

I am just so proud to be a part of the Sam Hughes Community! Over the last 9 weeks, I have had the privilege of watching the already amazing Sam Hughes Community become a stronger, closer CREW! Sam Hughes was able to report to District leadership that 100% of our students were accounted for during the closure! Way to go CREW!

To our teachers and staff- thank you for absolutely going to above and beyond to ensure our students and families stayed connected to our school! I can not put into words just how impressive your dedication and passion is for each of your students and their families. Thank you just does not seem to be enough for all you did to serve our students during the closure! THANK YOU!

To our parents and families- thank you for partnering with us to keep our students engaged and connected during our time apart. The success of our unique 4th quarter was due to your willingness to keep in contact with the teachers at Sam Hughes. Thank you for your understanding, patience, and consideration during all of the various item distributions! We were able to work together to safely provide academic resources and return items that belonged to students! Thank you again for being so supportive!

To the 2019-2020 5th Grade Class- This week marks your last few days here as a student and it is only fitting that we take time to reflect on the many wonderful memories you have created. You have worked hard and accomplished so much. In your time here at Hughes, you have learned how to read and write; you have become proficient in math, and have learned to think like scientists. You have created beautiful pieces of art, dazzled us at OMAPaloozas, and mastered the game of chess. You have played the Chuckwagon carnival games and authored many Bare Books over the years. And finally, you have taken on the ultimate mathematician, Mr. T., in Math Cross Country!

I know this was not the end of the year that was planned for you, but you should be proud of the way your class persevered through the closure and created new traditions! You were able to bring the Revolutionary War to life – Via ZOOM! AND, your class will go down in Sam Hughes history as the first class EVER to have a Promotion Parade!
Remember to always be CREW in everything you do! Keep doing your best, continue to be helpful, clean your rooms, practice your instruments, be good to each other, and keep smiling! 5th grade CREW, we are proud of you!!

As the 2019-2020 School Year comes to a close, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire Sam Hughes community for truly defining what it means to be CREW during our time apart. I look forward to seeing all of you in the fall- I am counting down the days until we can be together again!

All the best,
Kathryn Bolasky
