Please meet in the cafeteria at 5:30; we will introduce the Kinder Team and then invite our future huskies to go visit the classroom. Parents/Guardians will have the opportunity to hear about the kinder program and will be able to complete the registration process. Please bring the following items for registration:
  • Student’s Birth certificate (Original)
  • Immunization Records
  • Proof of residence
  • Photo ID
See you on Wednesday evening!
Parent Teacher Conferences
We will be hosting Parent Teacher Conferences on February 13th and 14th.
Each of these days are half days- Dismissal is at 11:45 on the 13th and 14th.  Students will have the opportunity to eat lunch prior to dismissal; the cafeteria will have school lunch available for purchase.
Thank you for making arrangements for your students for each of those afternoons! I would like to also thank you for taking the time to attend a conference with your student’s teacher. Student achievement increases when there is a strong partnership between schools and families. Thank you for working with us serve your student(s).
Online Registration Sessions Next Week
We will be here to help you with online registration for next year during parent-teacher conference days on February 13th and 14th from 12 PM – 3:00 PM.
If you are re-registering a current student, please bring a proof of residence (which can be your driver license/state ID, a utility bill, a car registration, a copy of your lease or property tax statement, etc.).
If you are also registering a new student, such as a younger sibling, please bring a proof of residence and your student’s birth certificate and immunization records, as well as your government-issued photo ID.
We look forward to seeing you and helping you verify your students’ information for the coming school year!
Tax Credit Donations Needed:
Did you know that only 1 in 5 Sam Hughes families currently participates in the Public School Tax Credit program?
Each year we spend just over $90,000.00 on our Tax Credit Programs. We have currently only raised $37,000.00. Please help us keep our enrichment programs- OMA, Chess, PE, Ecology. Field Trips, and Reading Tutors.
These programs would not be possible without Tax Credit Allocations.
Participating in the Public School Tax Credit program is easy and free, and virtually all residents who file taxes in the state of Arizona are eligible!
By claiming the Public School Tax Credit, you choose to direct a portion of the Arizona taxes you already owe or have paid straight to Sam Hughes to support essential school programs.
Have questions? Watch the short informational video at this link and then don't wait!  Participate today!

As always, please contact me with any questions!

Book Fair is up and running! Help us reach our goal of selling 1,000 books!

Your support allows us to provide a birthday book to each student. It also allows us to give a free book to 2 students in each classroom. We also are giving gift certificates to each teacher to add books to their classroom.

Since August we have added over $5,000 dollars worth of books to our library and classrooms. All thanks to your continued support. Will you come visit our book fair so that we can continue to give back to the school?

Thank you supporters!

Feb 3 - Feb 7

Did you know that only 1 in 5 of our school families participated in the Arizona Public School Tax Credit program last year?

Did you know that we rely on those tax credit contributions to fund our students enrichment, such as; OMA, P.E., Chess, Tutors, Field Trips and more!

Did you know that we need to raise $96,000 a year but for the past couple of years we have very fallen short of our goal?

Did you know that you can help us meet our goal?  Check out our guide video, Meet Maya.  She'll help you feel comfortable with the process.  We also have a detailed guide to claiming your contributions.  Check out our quick FAQ's as well for more information.

Are you ready to contribute? Follow these simple online steps.  You can also pay by check in the office.
1)  CHOIR is practicing songs for Chuckwagon! Find them here:
2) 3rd, 4th and 5th grade:
Please Encourage your child to practice - if you aim to practice every day then it becomes part of your routine - even just 10 minutes a day.  You are more likely to get 3-5 days of practice in if you aim for everyday.  Life comes up, of course!  But getting it in your routine really helps!  Those who are practicing are excelling!
    a) PLEASE remember to bring your instruments on your assigned day!
     b)  Does your child need extra GASCHO HELP ??? on his/her instrument or an extra challenge? Come in between 8-8:30 any Wed, Thurs and Fri morning in the cafeteria or Tallmadge Hall  :)  It's FREE!!
     c) Please remember to PLAY WITH and CARE for your instrument!!  Having these wonderful instruments at home and not practicing them is like having a fun friend around that you never bring out to play. 🙁 LOGGING practice and getting parent signatures gets KUDOS for your kiddo!! 🙂

3) Talent Showcase is this Friday, Jan 31!
Musically and Artfully yours,
Ms. Gascho
It's the time of year to start thinking about Science Fair!

Registration is due February 4th. Science projects are due in Talmadge Hall on Monday February 10th, and the judging will happen on Tuesday February 11th.

Registration forms
are due to the front office on Tuesday February 4th.

Check out the tips on how to get started in both the classroom packet and the "science fair inspiration" document! They have good advice about the hardest part (picking a topic) and coaching us parents through some of the tough moments (frustration on the part of kids and parents).  There are also great checklists about the preparation of the science fair project board.

If you have any questions, or would like to help out with Science Fair, please contact Margaret Evans at (or text 203-606-6665).
Community School Needs Your Help!

A few weeks ago the district wrapped up another successful registration process for Community School after-school classes. As with the first session last fall, interest in classes was high and most classes have waitlists. We are hoping to make Community School a fixture at Sam Hughes.

To that end, the coffers in the parent fundraising effort are getting low and so we are embarking on a spring fundraising campaign. The exciting thing about this campaign is that you can direct hundreds of dollars to Sam Hughes Community School at no cost to you via the Arizona charitable tax credit. If you are already directing your public school tax credit to Sam Hughes, you can triple your impact by directing your charitable tax credit to Sam Hughes Community School. These are two different tax credits. You can potentially claim both in the same tax year at the maximum level. Individuals can direct up to $400 to Community School via the charitable tax credit and couples can direct up to $800. For individual tax situations, consult an expert.

The tax credit contributions from last fall funded the following:

* reducing tuition by $20 across the board
* background checks for instructors
* robots for the robotics class
* skirts and sashes for the folklórico class
* supplies for art, music, yoga, Legos and cooking
* various other program needs

We are looking to continue to provide this kind of support to the program this year. We are also still very much pursuing the creation of a scholarship fund. We would like to fund training of a second robotics teacher with the aim of expanding the robotics program. We also have many supply needs. Are you able to help? You can make a charitable tax credit contribution for the 2019 tax year up until tax day. Sam Hughes Community School is a fiscal-sponsored project of the Educational Enrichment Foundation. Here is the link:

Any funds left over after Community School needs are met will be donated to the Sam Hughes PTA. For questions, please contact parent Josie Wilson at or the Educational Enrichment Foundation at
